In February 1910, as trains chugged through portions of the Cascades that are challenging to access, a series of storms dumped feet of snow, trapping them. Efforts to clear the tracks were stymied by more snow as well as rain and after 6 days of efforts, the worst outcome: an avalanche hit one of the trains. This book is taut, well-paced, and fascinating. They do describe finding the victims, in case you wouldn‘t want to read that.
