A book about a man who set out to visit every country on earth. This is actually a re-read for me because I remembered he talked about the freshwater sharks that live in #Nicaragua

What I forgot is this guy is kind of a pig. He has what seems like a different wife or girlfriend for each of the 200+ countries and he ends the book by marrying his girlfriend who is 49 years younger than him.

Anyway, the sharks were cool. #ReadingTheAmericas

Librarybelle 😮😬 I really don‘t know how to respond…😂 1y
BarbaraBB How could you have forgotten that 😂 1y
Bookwormjillk @BarbaraBB no idea. It was a different time I guess 🤷‍♀️😂🤦‍♀️ 1y

I loved this book. I had to put it down to Google places & things he was talking about, and I added about 50 things to my bucket list. ✈

I'm thinking my first bit of vacation time from SK will be a flight to Singapore, then a quick trip to Myanmar to see the balloon festival. 😍

fleeting Doing the balloon in Bagan was one of my top ten life experiences 😊 4y
Rachel.Rencher @fleeting I meant to reply to this sooner. I bet it was!! I've never been in a hot air balloon, but my hometown does a festival every year and I'd see a hundred balloons in the air over the mountain top and just be awestruck. I can't imagine how amazing it would be to fly over Bagan in one. 💕 4y
fleeting No worries! It's amazing coz the pilot points out the famous temples, & then there's a wishing temple that's gorgeous viewed from the skies. After that you get a champagne toast upon landing, which your pilot will explain the reason for. ;) if I may, I'd suggest Oriental Balloons over Balloons Over Bagan. They've only 8 per balloon as opposed to the other's 12 so there's more room to move around, see & take pics. I hope you do it, it was great :) 4y
fleeting BUT on the other hand, seeing it alone during sunset is already a wild experience in itself. People all over the world flock there just to experience the sunset over the thousands-of-years-old temples which is incredible. 😊 4y

I feel like that guy in The Twilight Zone who just wanted time read and then when the apocalypse hit & he was the only survivor, he broke his glasses. 😭

Today marks 90 days since I've been in isolation. I'm grateful for my health & the upcoming move, but I feel like all my days are blending together. I can't go to my mom's appts, see my friends, or a lot of other normal things. Be careful what you wish for, right? How's everyone else doing?

Smrloomis Similar - really lucky and grateful but also missing normal life! 😕 4y
Sace Ditto. Sort of. For everyone else in my city/state it's business as usual. Meanwhile our positive test numbers are rising and my city has 10% of the cases in the state....yet my friends husband who needs a test now has to wait until Saturday at the earliest because they are out of tests. It's surreal. 4y
Sace Meanwhile I'm staying put. Sorry for rambling/ranting. 4y

Rachel.Rencher @Smrloomis Me, too. I don't think I can ever go back to "normal" now. I'm gonna be such a germaphobe. 4y
Rachel.Rencher @Sace Same! My state opened up a few weeks ago. I'll drive down the street with my mask on & see hundreds of people at the village (shopping, dining, movies) just mingling together. It makes me mad that so many others aren't taking it seriously. I'm so sorry that tests are unavailable for your loved ones. I had two family members pass away from it, but they were only tested for it during autopsy. You're right, it is surreal. 4y
Smrloomis @Sace I‘m sure it‘s pretty weird for anyone in a place that looks normal outside. It sounds stressful in a different way. @Rachel.Rencher yup, I‘m thinking the new normal will still include face masks, hand sanitizer, and staying far away from other people 🤦🏻‍♀️ 4y
Smrloomis @Rachel.Rencher I‘m so sorry you‘ve lost loved ones to it 💗💗💗 4y
Sace @Rachel.Rencher I'm so sorry you lost loved ones! 4y
ElizaMarie I am so sorry for your loss. Initially I was planning on just commenting on how much I love your mug. Its beautiful! Also please take care of yourself. Being so isolated can be so hard on us. 4y
Rachel.Rencher @Smrloomis @Sace @ElizaMarie Thank you all 💕 Both of them were in Seattle which got hit pretty hard. It's just really made it feel real & scary. & thank you @ElizaMarie ! I got it at a farmers market. It was made by a local potter. My husband has one with bears on it. 4y
quietlycuriouskate So sorry you lost people. It's freaking me out that folk have started getting really lax about social distancing here. 4y
Rachel.Rencher @kathedron Thank you 💕 Me, too. My state even got rid of any mask requirements and social distancing as of Friday. It's up to individual businesses now if they want to enforce anything. 4y

I was deep into my book when I heard some light snoring. I thought Lucas had fallen asleep on the couch next to me, but it turns out Winston burrowed himself into the blanket for some much needed shut eye. 😴

My last Book Outlet order came in! 😍

I got some stuff to do on the plane/ in quarantine, a lot of travel memoirs, a Korean food guide, journals, and a couple other random books that caught my eye. 📚

I had to scroll back to find my first book haul post for the #bookhaulchallenge. I am happy to say that I've read them all! I don't have the best track record with reading my own books, so that surprised me!

Overall I enjoyed this book. I loved hearing about how Podell had to maneuver to get into some of the more difficult countries. I especially appreciated his thoughts at the end on what he‘s learned about the world after 50 years of travel. My only problem was that adding his more personal romantic exploits seemed contrived and messed with my flow of his stories. I‘d still recommend it though!

Finally completed my first book for my #tbrbingo! Hopefully that will give me some momentum. So many books, not enough time!

WhatDeeReads Congratulations! I'm sure you'll gain some momentum. It ebbs and flows. So rush. 7y

This was between a so-so and a pick for me. The author had some really incredible adventures over the course of his life, but his voice just didn't really resonate with me. There are some really entertaining stories mixed in with others that seemed worthy of more detail, interspersed with relatively dry segments.

Read for #readharder2017 #readharder travel memoir.
