The Empty Pot is Demi's beloved picture book about an honest schoolboy A long time ago in China there was a boy named Ping who loved flowers. Anything he planted burst into bloom. The Emperor loved flowers too. When it was time to choose an heir, he gave a flower seed to each child in the kingdom. "Whoever can show me their best in a year's time," he proclaimed, "shall succeed me to the throne!" Ping plants his seed and tends it every day. But month after month passes, and nothing grows. When spring comes, Ping must go to the Emperor with nothing but an empty pot. Demi's exquisite art and beautifully simple text show how Ping's embarrassing failure is turned triumphant in this satisfying tale of honesty rewarded. An IRA-CBC Children's Choice. An American Bookseller "Pick of the Lists."

A teacher could use this book to encourage kids to try their best and be honest, even when things don‘t go their way. A teacher could use this in their classroom to study how plants grow and learn about the lifecycle of plants.

Week 4: Traditional Literature. I love the illustrations in this book. So many colors in a very particular way. This book also follows such a great story line. Published in 1990.

I enjoyed reading this story because the message within the story is important for children to know. The story is all about honesty, the child in the story is rewarded because he is honest to the Emperor. This is a great example to show children a different culture of traditional literature.

I really loved how the illustrations were only in a small circle in the middle of each page and the rest was a basic color to make the illustration pop. I really loved this book and think it‘s great for children to read

Traditional literature, published 1990. This book tells the story of children in China who were given a challenge to plant the best special seeds and flowers in a years time to succeed the Emperor‘s throne. I love the way this story portrays one boy in particular who came to the emperor with an empty pot.
