The Incredible Adventures of Cinnamon Girl
The Incredible Adventures of Cinnamon Girl | Melissa Keil
13 posts | 13 read | 5 to read
Alba loves her life just as it is. She loves living behind the bakery and waking up in a cloud of sugar and cinnamon. She loves drawing comics and watching bad TV with her friends. The only problem is she's overlooked a few teeny details. Like, the guy she thought long gone has unexpectedly reappeared. And the boy who has been her best friend since forever has suddenly gone off the rails. Even her latest comic book creation is misbehaving. Also, the world might be ending-- which is proving to be awkward. As doomsday enthusiasts flock to idyllic Eden Valley, Alba's life is thrown into chaos. Whatever happens next, it's the end of the world as she knows it. But when it comes to figuring out her heart, Armageddon might turn out to be the least of her problems.

Holy cow! I loved this book! So not what I was expecting at all. A really sweet and funny coming-of-age novel about learning to move forward in life and accepting change. With the apocalypse as a backdrop setting. Mary Robinette Kowal heavily recommended this and boy was she right!

This is not the listing for this title...this book is SO new it isn't in Litsy's database yet, so I am posting it under another title by the author. The author just announced this on her social media today...this will be coming April 2017 in Australia, the newest book by one of my absolute favorite YA writers writing today! #loveozya

GlitteryOtters Ahem, @thegirlwiththelibrarybag tagging you to give you a heads up because I know you liked her first book. 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag Ooh! I haven't read Cinnamon Girl yet 😅 thanks for the heads up! As thanks, I'll recommend another Aussie author to you! Gabrielle Williams! 8y
GlitteryOtters @thegirlwiththelibrarybag ooooh, I don't know her! Looks good, stacking this one (will look through her other titles later!) 8y

GlitteryOtters @thegirlwiththelibrarybag well then, you must read Cinnamon Girl and, if you like it, I highly recommend preordering this new book too. I'm saving up my earnings from doing tasks online for Bing & Swagbucks towards an Oz YA focused book order. This book & the Love Oz YA anthology I posted about a while back are definite purchases, still need to work on the rest of the list (I hope I can earn up a lot of PayPal $ so I can buy a lot!!) 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag I loved her second novel the most - but it's zany! I'm not sure I would have read it if I'd known exactly what it was about (mostly cause it sounds a bit mad) but it worked 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag Well, it's a reasonably good time to buy as the US$ is stronger than the AU$ so you should get more books with your savings :) I'll try and tag you on #loveozya titles you might like... 8y
Chachic I have two of her books in my TBR pile (luckily they were available here in Singapore) but I haven't had a chance to read them! 8y
GlitteryOtters @Chachic they are so good!!' I hope you like them! 8y
Chachic I keep hearing good things about them! 8y

Ok, so my #bookpyramid is not structurally sound, but it is rather accurate. Imagine this like the US Food Pyramid and this gives you an idea of my book diet...tons of YA & middle grade as my base, lots of Russian lit and Women's lit (especially historical women's lit), smaller doses of house plan books, comics/graphic novels, sci-fi, magical realism, cultural history & bios. Top of pyramid is women's studies, cookbooks & lit crit. #photoadaynov16

GlitteryOtters @LeahBergen @britt_brooke @RealLifeReading thank you!! Can you tell I am married to a future dietitian who talks about food and nutrition constantly?! His influence even bleeding into my book prompts on Litsy..! @DebinHawaii also assuming no roaming dogs...this is why I made the only dog in the room get up on the bed (if you look closely, you can see part of her back reflected i the mirror wardrobe doors behind the books 😂) 8y

Good fun, though not quite what I expected from the blurb. Happy to find another enjoyable Aussie young adult writer.

Once again, Melissa Keil writes a story with really memorable characters and a plot that's easy to relate to, yet unique. Thoroughly enjoyed this story, particularly because I liked main character Alba a whole lot!
