Idlewild
Idlewild | Jude Sierra
2 posts | 3 read | 5 to read
Asher Schenck and his husband John opened their downtown gastropub at the start of Detroit's revival. Now, five years after John's sudden death, Asher is determined to pull off a revival of his own. In a last ditch attempt to bring Idlewild back to life, he fires everyone and hires a new staff. Among them is Tyler Heyward, a recent college graduate in need of funds to pay for medical school. Tyler is a cheery balm for Asher's soul, and their relationship quickly shifts from business to friendship. When they fall for each other, it is not the differences of race or class that challenge their love, but the ghosts and expectations of their respective pasts. Will they remain stuck or move toward a life neither of them has allowed himself to dream about?

Bailedbailed

I must admit, I didn't really get this book. I was only able to get through the Prologue and first chapter before I got bored. Furthermore, I thought it was inappropriate and unrealistic that Asher is having flirtatious thoughts while interviewing Tyler. At least wait until he's hired and has been working there for awhile. I don't know; I just didn't get it. 🌟

Suzze My hometown! Does the author mention why the title is Idlewild? Up near my niece's town, there is a small community by that name. It was one of the few places in the U.S. where African-Americans could purchase vacation properties in the first half of the century. 8y
OrangeMooseReads I live up near Idlewild. 😀 8y
mjdowens My hometown too! We spent every summer at our cabin in idlewild when I was a kid. I miss it 8y
Hooked_on_books I lived in Detroit for 5 years and there are a lot of people there who are very proud of their city. I think the motivation to improve the city is fully there. Now they need money, organization, and structured political support to implement change. 8y
lynneamch Truth! Detroit is on the mend.💕 8y
