Rights of Man (Revised)
Rights of Man (Revised) | Thomas Paine
"I know not whether any man in the world has had more influence on its inhabitants or affairs for the last thirty years than Tom Paine." - John Adams, 1805One of the great classics on democracy, "Rights of Man" was published in England in 1791 as a vindication of the French Revolution and a critique of the British system of government. In direct, forceful prose, Paine defends popular rights, national independence, revolutionary war, and economic growth - all considered dangerous and even seditious issues.

Pickpick

Fairly dry, but still, I think it‘s a necessary read.

“Some writers have so confounded society with government, as to leave little or no distinction between them; whereas they are not only different, but have different origins.”

Received my newest from the #OneHundredGreatestBooksEverWritten subscription by #EastonPress and it is Rights of Man and just so gorgeous! As always it is bound in genuine leather, acid neutral paper, gilded pages, and they are made to last. I love the illustrations and the design so much. Great #BookMail day any time Easton Press delivers ❤️

Independence is my happiness, and I view things as they are, without regard to place or person; my country is the world, and my religion is to do good.

geodynamical_nonfiction Ooh, Thomas Paine. 👍 Great quote! 8y
Angeles I really enjoy his work. All non fiction should be as clear, convincing and to the point as his books. Even when you disagree with him, his expositions of fact and ideas are a thing of beauty 8y
