The Three Little Pigs and the Somewhat bad wolf is a TL picture book about three pigs and a wolf that is oh so very hungry, but this is not your average story. This book is best enjoyed as a RT. Here is a resource with several activities to choose from https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/articles/teaching-content/three-little-pigs-...

KeanaE EL Strategy #50 for content comprehension use a variety of comprehension activities such as; strip stories, KWL activities, SQ3R, learning logs, role-playing activities, cloze strategies, etc.

GuidoParente I love fractured fairy tales, love the illustration work here and the fact that you defined the EL strategy! So great! 4y

Chaseb I love this story, and different versions of it. I agree, that this book would make a fun readers theater! I love that you found scholastic resources for the book, as we know, scholastic has trust-worthy teacher and parent resources we know we can count on! 4y
PatriciaS A classic 🙂 love traditional literature picture book 📖 great review 👍 thanks 4y
Betrinag I love twists on the classics! And I agree that a book like this would do great as a readers theater- students will be aware enough of the story to feel comfortable doing it, and the twist to the story adds an extra layer of fun! 4y
DrSpalding Traditional literature not only works well with storytelling but also as you noted, readers theater! Comparing fractured fairytales with the original version also works well using quality graphic organizers. 4y

my favorite part was when the pigs let the wolf in and he didn't want to eat them anymore because they gave him potato chips and soda pop

this book was really cute and funny. I liked how they made the wolf seem not as mean, it made the story less scary for young children. the illustrations were also really fun and I liked how they gave the pigs so many human charecteristics

This HF book is written and illustrated beautifully by Mark Teague. It is a different take on the classic folk tale. This book would be perfect for story telling with a whole classroom. It would engage students through linking lessons through prior knowledge. It would also increase mastery feedback from reading the story out loud. Here‘s a website to his other books https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/authors/mark-teague/ #UCFlae3414su19

DrSpalding This would not be historical fiction. Look back at your genre flip guide and be sure you understand the characteristics of each genre. This is traditional literature and to be more specific a variant of a traditional tale. 5y

#lae3414sp19 The book “The Three Little Pigs and The Somewhat Bad Wolf” (TL) is a spin-off of the traditional “The Three Little Pigs,” but with some extra detail. The two of the pigs love potato chips and soda, and decide to invest their money in those things and settle on a not as nice house unlike the third pig, who is more knowledgeable and buys sturdy house supplies. (cont. in comments)

sydneydaniels In the end, the third pig has the last house standing and eats the potato chips and soda along with the two other pigs and wolf. This story would be a great RA, because it is comical and easy to read in a entertaining voice. The UDLs I would use for this picture book would be 3.2, 9.2, and 3.3. 6y
sydneydaniels As for ESOL students, I would use numbers 17 and 19 to display the action of how the third pig‘s idea is best, and show how easy it is to knock down the first two houses by demonstrating in a model. As for a lesson plan, I feel ask if this can be a great one to tie along: http://www.hubbardscupboard.org/three-little-pigs 6y
taywise393 I love this book! This is a great one to read as a RA. The students definitely would get a kick out of it! 6y

KAdudu I love this book and also the resources you added. 6y
mluter This book sounds so funny! I love the take on prioritizing soda and potato chips... A child‘s dream! 6y
DrSpalding This is a cute version to compare to the original. Read aloud‘s and storytelling for traditional literature work well. 6y

This remake of the TL story of the three little pigs features the story of why the three little pigs built their homes the way they did and why the big bad wolf isn‘t so bad after all. This book would make for a great S! No wonder why it‘s a Parents Choice Award Winner! A great resource to use with this book is http://readwritethink.org/parent-afterschool-resources/games-tools/fractured-fai... as it allows the students to pick a

ATejada piece of traditional literature and change specific characteristics of the story to make it their own! This book also goes along with ESOL Strategy 26 Maintain a library of supplementary books and workbooks written in simple English, which offer additional illustrations for problems. It also goes great with UDL Principle 7.1 Optimize individual choice and autonomy. #UCFLAE3414SuB18 6y

Three Little Pigs and the Somewhat Bad Wolf is a cute rendition on the classic story. This traditional literature piece would be ideal for a read aloud because it could be very interactive. Https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/articles/teaching-content/three-little-pigs-and-somewhat-bad-wolf-activities/ #UCFLAE3414SP18

Laura.S UDL 3.1 would align with this book because there is a chance to activate background knowledge with the children. ESOL 42 would work because the story works chronologically and a timeline could be made. This book would also be great for dramatic re-enactment! 7y
V.DeQuattro Such a classic! I agree that it would be a great RA book. 7y
DrSpalding This would also make a great storytelling. Mark Teague often times joins up with Jane Yolen to create wonderful picture books for children. 7y

The Three Little Pigs and the Somewhat Bad Wolf by Mark Teague is a picture book that I would use for RA, S or RT. This story tells the traditional tale of the three little pigs who find themselves in trouble with the somewhat bad wolf—who is really just hungry and frustrated that the pizza parlor will not serve him. This is a really cute twist on a classic and I‘m happy to have it in my class library. #UCFLAE3414SP18 🐷🐷🐷 🍕❤️🐺

WendyV I think this book would be fun for students to read and then act out in the classroom. I found a great article on 8 steps to have a successful classroom readers theater. https://www.weareteachers.com/8-steps-to-successful-classroom-readers-theater-2/ 7y
WendyV I would use UDL strategy 9.1 by promoting my expectations and beliefs of my students for their motivation to read and act out the story is increased. Since there is only 4 characters in this story, I would break my class into groups of 4 to work together (UDL 8.3) and EL 2. Students can work together to prepare for their performance. 7y
BriannaR This is a classic 😍😍. I loved this story growing up. I hope that in the future, it never looses its importance in childhood. 7y

DrSpalding This is fabulous! Your posts are continuously of high-quality. I had a student story tell this book last semester. It was awesome! Readers theater could also work and your resource is stellar. 7y
paulettevp This twist of a classic is such a great opportunity for a lesson on comparing and contrasting the traditional story to the modern twist. In that comparison and contrasting you could even include the differences and similarities in the lessons/moral being taught within the stories. 7y
JessicaC I LOVED THIS! I can‘t wait to read this with my students in my class! 7y

This adorable traditional literature picture book tells the story of the three little pigs in a fun and different way! All three pigs spend their money on different things such as potato chips, sody-pop, and building supplies. The bad wolf in town is able to easily blow down the first two pigs‘ houses, however when the wolf can‘t blow down the last house, they all decide to get together and have some fun!

Sabrinac The pigs feed the wolf and he even moves into the house that is standing! This is such a cute spin off on the original Three Little Pigs story. #UCFLAE3414F17 7y
Sabrinac The ESOL strategy I️ will use will be number 4. Link lesson topic to students‘ prior knowledge. I️ will use this strategy because, I️ will tell them to think about the original “Three Little Pigs” book and what they remember about I️t. This will help them connect to this book! 7y
Sabrinac The USL strategy I️ will use will be 3.1, Activate or supply background knowledge. I️ will use this strategy because it goes hand in hand with my ESOL strategy! 7y

I like three little pigs retellings and this one was ok. Got a little chuckle at the wolf acting surprised that he actually blew a house down, haha .. but the ending was pretty lack-luster, unfortunately.
