N Or M?
N Or M? | Agatha Christie
Collins brings the Queen of Crime, Agatha Christie, to English language learners. Agatha Christie is the most widely published author of all time and in any language. Now Collins has adapted her famous detective novels for English language learners. These carefully adapted versions are shorter with the language targeted at upper-intermediate learners (CEF level B2). Each reader includes: A CD with a reading of the adapted story Helpful notes on characters Cultural and historical notes relevant to the plot A glossary of the more difficult words It is World War II and Britain's best secret agent has been murdered. The murderers are Nazi agents, known only as N and M, and could be anyone. The only clue points towards the sleepy seaside village of Leahampton and its busy guesthouse, Sans Souci. Tommy and Tuppence Beresford, Britain's most unlikely spies, accept the mission to find N and M. No one can be trusted...

I greatly enjoyed this Tommy and Tuppence novel, which was as much of a spy thriller as mystery. I loved Tuppence's cleverness, and Hugh Fraser's narration of the audiobook was perfect.

My first Tommy & Tuppance…. And it was alright. I enjoy Poirot much more. But having that spy in WWII thing, and a married couple, was pretty different. Just not among my favorites of Agatha Christie‘s.

LiteraryinPA I agree. I‘ve only read the Tommy and Tuppence ones once, while I reread the Poirot and Marples all the time. 13mo

Unfortunately I read 2 WWII novels back to back not realizing it. Tommy gets contacted to find some German spies in an English village. But Tuppence isn‘t allowed to know and she shows up there anyway. They then work together but apart because they can‘t let anyone know they know each other.

These aren‘t my favorite books. I like Poirot, Battle and Marple much more! But I do enjoy Hugh Fraser.

LiteraryinPA I agree, this is a less awesome Christie. 1y

I'm not generally a fan of Christie's political novels, but I do love Tommy and Tuppence. This story gives an interesting look at what my kids would call the "vibe" in England at the start of WWII. There's a lot more tension than in many of Christie's mysteries. The intrigue I can take or leave, but I like that the novel is emotionally complex, the parent-child relationships feel authentic, and the Beresfords' marriage is refreshingly equal(ish).

ImperfectCJ Also, Tuppence in this one is the same age as I am now, and I relate to her desire not to be dismissed as irrelevant because of her age. :-) 2y

I don‘t have many Christie novels left to read & will probably do audio for them. I‘m loving Tommy & Tuppence. It took me a few minutes to sort out the ending; as usual, Christie has lots of red herrings. I figured out one villain quickly. The fun of this series is Tommy & Tuppence‘s conversations & ingenuity.

Thomas and Tuppence are back, foiling Nazis on England's south coast.

It's such a jolly jape it can be difficult at times to remember how serious this was at the time. And my theory as to who the ringleader was was of course totally wrong.

rabbitprincess Haha the formatting makes it look like the book is called “Norm?” 4y

Slogging along in my reading slump, of all times to have one! Ugh. Yet I finished another book and it was a good one. I wish Christie had written more Tommy and Tuppence novels. ❤️

Lovely to catch up with these sleuths who now have grown children. Many perfect references to middle-age that made me know I was reading this at just the right time. Tommy and Tuppence are a delight.

I didn't remember liking this one very much and being a bit prejudiced against Tommy and Tuppence, but this time I found it perfectly enjoyable.

@Jess_Read_This My vintage Agatha collection. As you can see I like a certain Fontana edition dating from late 60s to early 70s.

Jess_Read_This 😱😍😍😍😱❤️📚❤️Omigosh! Those are gorgeous! I haven't seen those editions before! 7y
elliemcc11 @Jess_Read_This a few were mine (Passed down from grandparents) and others I got via eBay. They are probably British only editions. From Collins. 7y
Jess_Read_This @elliemcc11 British editions of books are usually the nicest editions. You have classy publishing there! 7y
elliemcc11 I'm a big fan of graphics and design. Other editions are available but these are my favourite 👍@Jess_Reads_This 7y

After completing the second title in the Tommy & Tuppence series (1/12 #AgathaChristie reads for #santhiReads2017) I began the next book, N or M. Was surprised at time lapse between book 2 & 3.
I have a library copy as well as the ebook collection from #overdrive.

Unlike Partners in Crime, the 3rd title is based on a central plot. Age has not diminished the duo's formidable spirit!

Looking forward to enjoying the works from Queen of Mystery

Visited 3 different #librarysg branches (near work places and flat) yesterday to comfort myself... This was at the 2nd branch

Reading #AgathaChristie is part of #santhiReads2017 plan... Murder at the Vicarage is the first book in Miss Marple series. Will get around to Poirot's maiden case
