I somehow missed this book in it‘s Reading Rainbow days. I love this story because it is told exactly like a kid would tell it. How was the class trip. It was boring...until…. You have to pull each little part of the story out of the child in a backward timeline. Its funny, its adorable, and its perfectly illustrated by the master Steven Kellogg. No wonder this book was a Reading Rainbow hit that is still heavily read today.
“I bet Jimmy was sad because he left his pet boa constrictor.” “Oh, not really. We left in such a hurry that one of the pigs didn‘t get off the bus, so now he‘s got a pet pig.”
This would be a good book to read to a class for some humor and to get the students‘ imaginations going. You also have to pay close attention to the sequence of events throughout the book in order to fully understand it.
Genre: Traditional Literature
I thought this book was very cute and it reminded me of the days in elementary school when my class would go on field trips. They always seemed to be somewhat of a disaster and mess, which is what happens in this book. My favorite part about reading this book was looking at all the different facial expressions on each of the children‘s faces throughout the pages. The illustrations were very intriguing to me.
Playing catch up from the weekend. @LibrarianRyan #octbookchallenge
