#SeptemBowie 📕📗📘At nearly 3,000 pages this trilogy was a definite #SlowBurn😆For someone who suffers from#PageCountPhobia I'm not sure how I ever picked up book one, but truth be told...it was fantastic! Book two was equally good but by book 3, I was no longer invested in this epic saga. Ken Follett is a master storyteller and a damn fine history teacher 👨‍🏫 I honestly learned a ton of world history 🌍

Cathythoughts So great to read & learn. If all the world could read , we might live in safer times (edited) 7y
ElishaLovesBooks I love Ken Follett! Pillars of the Earth is an all time favorite! 7y

emilyhaldi Would love to read these someday!! Maybe next year when all of my readalongs slow down 😂 7y
Cortg I felt the same way. The characters were in the middle or part of too many major historical events making it too over the top rather than just living during the time. Loved the first two though! 7y
Cinfhen 😊 @emilyhaldi now that you're moving to Ohio you won't have the city to distract you...although there are 2 adorable little nieces who are probably super excited 💕💕 7y
Cinfhen Have u read any of his other series @Cortg I started Pillars @ElishaLovesBooks but I never finished book one🤔 7y
Cortg I read Pillars of the Earth and loved it but never picked up the 2nd book. Someday I'd like to though. It's sooooo long and I still need to read the 8th book in Outlander series. I love loooooong books but I need to find the time to really invest in them, otherwise I drag them out too long. 7y
Reviewsbylola I loved the first book but never continued. I suck at finishing series. 7y
Cinfhen His books are such a commitments @Reviewsbylola @Cortg 7y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled I loved the first book but bailed on #2 about halfway in. 🤷‍♀️ 7y
DivineDiana @Cinfhen So funny. My husband told me today that he saw a review for his new book in the Philadelphia Inquirer, and he is interested in reading the series! I was not very encouraging and told him you should finish all the books you have started first! 😀 7y
Cinfhen Oooh, there's a new book?!? @DivineDiana and I can't believe you gave hubby some attitude...his TBR can't be worse than ours🙄😜 7y
DivineDiana @Cinfhen I had the wrong series! 😜The new book is the second in the Kingsbridge series, after The Pillars of the Earth. 7y
DivineDiana And I agree that I should only encourage not discourage any reading. What was I thinking?!? Going to look for a copy of The Pillars of the Earth in the Library used book stacks! 😉 7y
Cinfhen That's much better @DivineDiana definitely check out Bala...I'm pretty sure I saw a copy there this summer ( maybe call & ask) 7y
DivineDiana @Cinfhen Will do! 👌🏻 7y

Pickpick

I've just finished the set and am so sad. I loved these characters and the families that were woven together in complex ways. Even after 3,000 pages I didn't want it to end. Fabulous integration of history and fiction.

I think this is the chunkiest book set I ever read! Loved Book2, Book 1 was good and Book 3 was just too much! #FunFridayPhoto

Maike I stopped about halfway through book one, but I'll probably start over when I find the motivation 😇 8y
Cinfhen @Maike sort of sad, but I FINALLY learned a ton of history ☺️ 8y
Meg11726 I have all of these as well. I haven't gotten around to picking them up! 8y

Meg11726 I really enjoyed World without End and Pillars of the Earth. 8y
MicheleinPhilly I have the first 2 but haven't read them yet. They're SOOOOO heavy. I'd probably pull a muscle. 8y
Cortg I loved books 1 & 2, book 3 not so much. @Meg11726 I loved Pillars of the Earth but haven't gotten around to World Without End, though I want to, eventually! 8y
Reviewsbylola I have only read Pillars of the Earth but have considered this series. 8y
Cinfhen @Reviewsbylola this series was good, I learned a ton of history but it started to drag towards the end, I agree with @Cortg by book 3 I was totally disinterested in the whole saga 8y
Cinfhen @Meg11726 I started reading Pillars of the Earth but I never finished, I can't remember why. I'm not sure I'll ever get back to it 8y

Good historical fiction. I read them as way to review U.S. political events, looking for the ways history repeats itself. Came to the conclusion that history will repeat if we don't know and remember it.

I would like to see this trilogy as a TV series.
The trilogy extends through the 20th century and it touches all of the important historical events (WW I, Revolution in Russia, WW 2, cold war, the fall of the Berlin Wall) which are intertwined with the lives of five families, living in different parts of the world.
