Blood in the water I sing,
and one who shed it:
deadliest hunger I sing, and one who fed it-
weaving the ancient-most tale
of the Sea's sending:
singing the tragedy,
singing the joy unending
This is our shame-
this is the whole Ocean's glory...

Anyone who likes silly, thoughtful, and wise magical realism will love this book: essentially, mistakes are made, and the seal that keeps the Jinn in their own world breaks. They are silly, strange, curious, and childish, and only the children of the only Jinn who learned to love can stop them.

"After countering Pitt and Temple on the one hand and objecting to Bute‘s approach to peace on the other (on top of which, the king considered him tedious), Grenville must have been surprised after Bute‘s resignation to find himself head of the ministry."
Ooh, burn.

Looking forward to starting this one! It comes very highly recommended - and it's one of the monthly deals of the month on Amazon kindle, if you're interested.

Apparently one of the best books on the cryptography situation in WWII - just started, and a little dry so far. Still, I'm always looking for good books on the subject, it's a sort of pet passion, so will continue forth.

This is a book of short stories about Vietnamese living in Louisiana - it's poignant and thoughtful and gently empathetic, and all around excellent. 10/10, would read again.

There were women around Jesus when He died, the two Marys. They couldn't do anything for him. But neither could the men, who had all run away.
