cw: eating disorders, rape. I read this book immediately after EXIT, PURSUED BY A BEAR, so I was feeling vulnerable. It was a really well plotted story and a pretty good bit of YA. Voice wasn't quite there for me but I read it in one sitting all the same!

cw: rape. This story moved so quickly and the character was so well supported that at times you feel like it wasn't real (esp. compared to SPEAK or ASKING FOR IT) but honestly, it was great to read a novel where everyone steps up as they should. And the protag's best friend is a badass. Solid YA.

I LOVE the female friendship at the core of this book. It's one of those books I dip back into fairly regularly as some kind of little reassurance.

The Girls: A Novel | Emma Cline

Emma Cline writes about the seductive nature of female friendship and attraction with mastery, but the cult elements of this book were a little rushed and vague. Great read all the same, I expect it will do very well this summer!

I read this as part of Rachel Syme's WLClub and was both gripped and astonished how this 200 page book spoke about Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes while also serving as an excellent piece of critical writing on the biography genre.

The Hotel Adequate view and it's mysterious visitor serve as a fine setting for this story told across multiple narratives and several decades. A delight.

todd A wonderful read! 9y

I loved this book. So many great case studies from a range of voices and tremendously helpful to me vis a vis idea generation and challenging your colleagues even when you're the only dissenting voice. Yay.

jeff Excited to read this! 9y

I loved the first half but then I think it lost its tempo. Disappointed, I'm afraid!

Everyone I've recommended this to has sent me a text message with some variation on "I hate you." It's that good/heartbreaking.

Orbeck33 I'm actually afraid to read it. Although I've heard it's breathtaking. 9y
Vicki It's on my to read stack for this month. I'm prepared to cry... 9y
indubitablyzara Yeah, I've been avoiding reading it for that very reason...at some point I'm sure I will read it and be destroyed like everyone else, though. ;P 9y

Great read, wickedly funny. Felt like a companion to one of my absolute favourites: Oreo by Fran Ross.
