Okay, so the only #cozymystery I've read is not a #rantreview on my booktube (link in bio 😉) but it feels unfair to write off a whole section in Barnes and Noble based off one book. Is this a good one? Can you give me the best recs? Help!
In other news, yes I am very excited to read about my local witch haven. Though modern-day Salem is not necessarily the Salem of yore, it's still pretty cool when books are set in my state! Have you ever been?

A Talr for the Time Being switched back and forth between the stories of Ruth, a writer in Canada, and Nao, a japanese teenager dealing with some serious bullying. I loved learning about Japanese culture through the writing/footnotes.
I love books that switch between narratives and footnotes galore, but there's a smidge too much existentialism within these pages for me to fully get it on the first try. I am going to happily re-read it!

I didn't think I'd have to worry about the romance plot (not my favorite genre), since it isn't mentioned until the end of the summary. BUT it has so many increasingly awkward (Lily literally runs away and puts space/objects/doors between them) scenes of her BEST FRIEND hitting on her. A little slow-burn would have gone a long way. I did enjoy Lily's voice and obsession with true crime? The mysteries are okay? But it's a no from me.
