I couldn't put this book down. A beautiful exploration of therapy and the ways people change and grow, as told by someone who is both a therapist and a patient. The storytelling is compelling - I'd compare this to something written by Brené Brown. As with the best books, I walked away from this one a little changed.

Educated: A Memoir | Tara Westover

It's difficult to describe the range of emotions I went through while reading this book. It is stunning in content and form, in many meanings of the word.

Couldn't put it down. Disturbing, intense, brilliantly written.

Drive | Daniel H. Pink
Pickpick

Reading this book during the current pandemic was interesting. "Drive" offers a different view of how our work could look, if we were to heed scientists and researchers who have a deeper understanding of what motivates people. Spoiler alert: most of the time, it's not rewards and punishments. Similar to Carol Dweck's "Mindset", this book is very readable and offers a great deal of real-world examples, not just abstract ideas for improvement.

The End of Food | Paul Roberts

Drags a bit near the end, but very interesting (albeit somewhat disturbing) and well-researched. If you're interested in food systems, this is a must-read.

How to Be Alone: Essays | Jonathan Franzen
Panpan

This book was not entirely without merit. There were quite a few pieces of essays that left me feeling thoughtful and pierced. But for the most part, it was just that: pieces. On the whole, the impression I walk away with of Franzen, whose fictional work I have loved, is of a somewhat pretentious man who wrongly thinks he is self-aware.

I don't regret reading this book. It had its redeeming moments. But I certainly wouldn't recommend it.

Fun to read, had some cliches. Considering it as a read-aloud text for my 4th graders.

Far more engaging than I thought it would be. Beautifully written, full of many different threads and philosophical tangents and unexpected moments of humor that weave together so well.
