Wrapped up this series and I have to say I did enjoy it. The best part was the character development, as the characters and their relationships were rich and interesting. The plot got a little lost at times but because this is a world of magic and imagination, I felt like there was enough wiggle room to get past it. Great series.

Pretty interesting series so far. I think Karou is a great female lead.

I couldn‘t put it down! Celaena is a complex, strong female character and I think anyone who appreciates fantasy will enjoy this one.

This book has a really interesting premise and great characters. I really enjoyed it, but I was SO disappointed by the ending. I understand books that leave room for a sequel/series, but it felt like there were chapters missing. It was such an abrupt ending that left so many unanswered questions. It turned me off to any future books.

I loved this book! Definitely a beauty and the beast kind of feel to it. The female heroine was relatable and the social/political setting kept it interesting. I'm excited to read more of this series!

This has definitely been a Cassandra Clare summer for me so far! I'm liking the short story collections.

BooksForEmpathy Hi! Yay! Where are you a school counselor!? How long have you been in the job? 7y
khiltz @BooksForEmpathy Hi! I just graduated a year ago. Last year I was a long-term sub at a private Catholic school. The jury is still out on where I work next as they eliminated the position due to low enrollment. I have a (4th!!!) interview on Wednesday so fingers crossed! What made you move from marriage/family counseling to school counseling? 7y
BooksForEmpathy I just was licensed for my MFT in March, and all of my hours were in schools. I love being part of the school community and especially because I want to work with teens, school counseling/therapy makes the most sense for me. MFTs have a long career though and can go anywhere so I know it's always there in a different capacity if I want it to be. But next year, I start in two schools! 7y
BooksForEmpathy I will be in a k-8 catholic school as a school counselor and then also an MFT contractor at a public middle school. So I am doing both! But I am finishing my credential program next year as well so both of my schools are giving me my hours! Good luck with your job interview!! Where are you located?? What brought you into the job?? 7y
khiltz Awesome! That flexibility will really help. I've worked mostly with middle/high school students. I'm located in western NY. This is a career change for me. I was an editor/copy editor/writer for a decade. I didn't like being pushed into marketing and wanted to do something more meaningful. My own high school counselor, who passed away from breast cancer, was my inspiration for going into the field. ❤️ 7y

Thinking back on some of my favorite books, and Poppy Z. Brite came to mind. I've got to find Lost Souls and re-read it. I wonder if it will mean as much to me now...? What favorite books from your youth do you want to read again?

I liked a lot of things about this book, but the ending left me confused. Interesting concepts but I'm not sure I'd want to read another...

Just as good as the first in the series. I highly recommend this series if you like fantasy books. I'm (impatiently) waiting for the third in this trilogy!

Maybe I'm biased because this book is set in my hometown, but I enjoyed it. It took me a few chapters to get into it, but by the end I cared about what happened to the characters. And reading a local author is inspiring!
