S. T. is a foul-mouthed domesticated crow looking to get back to his human after a zombie apocalypse. Of course, things go wrong...

Really funny, very original, spot on voicing of the various animals. Always suspected squirrels are really wild. 😂

Russian fairy tale turned really good fantasy - can't wait for the next!

Right brain? Left brain? Not what you think! Yeah, our brains are divided and asymmetrical, but the result is much deeper than what conventional wisdom would tell you.

Mehso-so

Watching Bosch on Amazon Prime, thought I'd try the books. This was Connelly's first, so a little rough around the edges. Noir, for sure!

Cozy mystery with a 400 year old alchemist and a living gargoyle from Paris! Looking forward to the next one.

Magic powered spaceships? Pulling rabbits out of the hat to solve plot problems? Nah, not for me.

A group of misfit police in Naples isn't really the group of screw-ups and losers everybody's thinks they are. Maybe, in spite of their failings and flaws, they're heroes after all.

Really good Italian noir!

StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego Welcome to Litsy 💖📖💖 5y
drneutron Thanks! 5y
ImperfectCJ It occurs to me that until this post, I was entirely unaware of Italian noir as a genre. I might need to check some out! Welcome to Litsy! 5y

Think you're a gamer? Ain't seen nothing til you've seen these games! North's one heckuva speculative fiction writer.

SqueakyChu Hmmm? My son‘s a gamer. I wonder if I‘d like this book. Now I play nothing other than Pokemon GO. 😂 5y
drneutron The games we‘re talking about are ultimately global-political in nature, which was fascinating, but this wasn‘t Ready Player One gaming. Having said that, I think you - and maybe he- would enjoy it. 5y

The US Congress is messed up by anyone‘s definition. But in the decades before the American Civil War, it was - unbelievably - worse. Even to the point of violence on the Capitol floor, mirroring society as a whole as they drove headlong into the Civil War. It‘s quite a story, and Freeman tells it well. And is a bit scary as we see the divisions today and wonder where all this is headed.

True story - once a month in Philadelphia, 82 of the top investigators and forensic specialists meet to solve cold cases. Named after renowned French policeman and rogue, the Vidocq Society only looks at cases more than two years old, and only at the request of the investigating police force, with a claimed 90% success rate. Capuzzo‘s telling of their story is fascinating, even if it does slip into the maudlin occasionally.

RaimeyGallant So interesting. Adding!

I'm really enjoying Schwab's concept of parallel worlds (and Londons) separated by magical influence. Plus the writing's top notch!

Joined today after the joint Litsy/LibraryThing meetup yesterday evening. Thanks, Tim, for getting me into the Exhibits to get all these great books!

BookFreakOut Hello again! I also picked up Luminous Dead and Terra-Two! Managed to get everything packed up under the airline weight limit. 6y
drneutron @BookFreakOut Luminous Dead will probably be the first one I read, but unfortunately, I picked up 6 library books before I left (and have a seventh waiting for me). So I have to figure out how to interleave the two batches. 😁 6y
charl08 Still super impressed by this haul. One day I will get to an ALA meeting! 6y

SqueakyChu Welcome to Litsy! Great book haul! I‘m sure you‘ll get them all read...eventually! I hope you enjoy Litsy. I find it fun to post brief messages here about books as I read them. (edited) 5y
drneutron Thanks! I‘ve been posting as I finish, but will probably add those in process too. 5y
SqueakyChu @drneutron So how have you been enjoying Litsy? I love to stop right in the middle of a book just to jot down my thoughts here. 5y
drneutron So far, I‘ve enjoyed seeing the range of what folks are reading! 5y
humouress I'm still working out how to use Litsy, but I'm finding it useful to put down thoughts/ quotes as I read. Then I can use them to write a review on LibraryThing (and then bring the review back here and work out how to condense it right down). (edited) 5y
