“The world was waking up.”
This story is inventive, adventurous, and a tale about friendship.
I was really intrigued with the fact that all of the characters had some human qualities & characteristics, but were animals. This makes for a great connections and can allow the author more freedom with what they can do.
I think this is a great series for young boys who might not like to read yet.
This was the only series that my brother (who did not like to read) actually finished. I can‘t help but think that he was driven to read because of the way Artemis had built up success and then handled his struggles.
This series is jammed packed action, cleverness, and unforgettable adventures. This book would make for an excellent read aloud.
“In the loves of humans, there are moments that feel very much apart from the majority of moments.”
I also really appreciate the use of children characters. This makes it so easy for young readers to connect.
I really like this book for the way it‘s emphasizes community and all the “good stuff.” So many times books can get lost in the trials and tribulations, but this book is a breath of fresh air.
I have never fully read this series, but I know it is packed with action and cleverness. I can imagine my older brother when he was restless and young settling down to read a story like this one.
“Remember that all worlds draw to an end and that noble death is a treasure which no one is too poor to buy.”
This series is another that blows my mind. I love C.S. Lewis‘s use of children. This really helps resonate with the kids who have & will read the series.
This is one series I failed to read as a child, but loved it anyways by how it moved my friends. I absolutely adore the storyline and creativeness.
“The truth. It is a beautiful and terrible thing, and therefore should be treated with great caution.”
There is so much dynamic in all of these books...from action to self-discovery and eventually to romance. There is something for everyone.
I have always appreciated the Harry Potter series even before I read it. This was the series that my brother started reading when he was in 1st grade. From the boy who could & would read anything, his favorite was Harry Potter. This struck me...that such a series could move such a young boy. In turn, I quickly fell in love with them, too.
“Never trust anyone who has not brought a book with them.”
The children are extremely relatable and the reader truly want to see them succeed. I appreciate how Lemony Snicket made them good and pure.
I appreciate this whole series, but will write on the first book. I really appreciate the vocabulary used (and defined) throughout the story. There is also repetition throughout the books like in a children‘s story. This keeps the readers interested throughout the whole series.
“It is cold and dark, and things are not what they seem, and the truth is forever changing.”
This is such a great book that would be great for a “chapter a day” read or an independent read. The fact that Peter and his sister do reunite pulls everyone heart strings.
I was blown away by this book and the way it was written (drawn). With no words, and few images (really detailed, though)...it is important to really take in each illustration to grasp the full story.
It really shows the importance of our veterans and those who have sacrificed their lives for our freedom.
The Vietnam War Memorial is such a beautiful place and I think it would be a great for children to read about especially when talking about the DC area and what is in it.
“After dinner, it‘s time for my favorite task. I draw vinegar to polish the brass.”
The illustrations are detailed and beautiful.
We never really talk about the colonists with you her students, so I think this is a great way to read it to them. I love that the book uses the colonists‘ language, too.
A very good book and a really detailed story. This is a story for older children who are being introduced to WWII. This would be a great story for children who love sports, too.
I love this story because it really shows appreciation for the working man. Two boys who are proud of their fathers.
Such a captivating story about a boy who mails himself to freedom. Through trials and tribulations, Henry discovers more about himself and his family throughout the years.
The illustrations are captivating and extremely appropriate for the mood the story sets.
We never get to hear this story. After teaching a lesson about Rosa Parks and her legacy and influence, this would be an excellent story for children to hear.
“This is the hand that touched the hand that has touched the hand that has shook the hand of Abraham Lincoln.”
Since the language is a bit advanced and the sentences are longer, I would choose this for an older class.
Such a powerful book that moves people to tears. A great story about the American Civil War. A great tribute to a man who will not be forgotten.
