Hard to read a book while also playing fetch, but here we are.
I last read this series maybe 20 years ago. I'm enjoying it this time, though it's easier for me to see some of the cracks in the foundation...
Love the cover art, it's so stereotypically "fantasy"

My good friend & book publicist, Erin Kottke, passed me an ARC of this book. It was a mystery and a treasure hunt, but also a book about family and identity. I enjoyed its pacing and language. It was also the only book I took on a short trip. Would recommend.

"But race is the child of racism, not the father." Only on page 7, and Coates is dropping this knowledge. I'm embarrassed it's taken me this long to read this book.
This is a great read, really turning the conventional Western tropes on their end. And I had to give my dog a bone so I could occupy her time and finish the book uninterrupted!
