Buried in the Past | Heather Peck
post image

“It was that point in the evening which the poetic might call crepuscular. To the four men, unloading dogs and other equipment from two battered pickups, it was the perfect moment between dark and light. Dark enough to obscure their presence, light enough to set up the course.” Excellent opening to Heather Peck‘s latest #policeprocedural, ‘Buried in the Past‘.

"She considers herself a well-traveled woman, and from each place she has been to, she has brought away a prejudice as a souvenir."

"And so while my husband sleeps upstairs - we pack and I prepare to go into the wilderness with a suspected killer. What's worse, a man I haven't been properly introduced to."
Loving this moment of dark humour.

Pride and Prejudice | Jane Austen

"all Mr Collins's scruples of leaving Mr and Mrs Bennet for a single evening during his visit were steadily resisted"
I LOVE the understatement in Austen and the consistently ironic tone. Perfect pre-bedtime comfort reading.

This book is my account of some of the more unique aspects of policing the Isles of Scilly. I really hope you enjoy them and if we should meet, please don't end up in one of my stories.

Loved this. SO MANY SECRETS. Jaw-dropping reveal that makes perfect sense. Great endings all round. And I love Manny. Crime + humour + secrets + small village life.
