So torn on this book. Had great ideas, but I feel like it was too big? The final panel was amazing but it took too long to get there. I think my expectations were too high because Fun Home is one of my favorites of all time.

Book 10/52 of 2017. Colson Whitehead's The Underground Railroad is an important book. The concept is simple - slave narrative featuring the Underground Railroad as a literal underground railroad. A meticulously researched & well-written novel. My only complaint w/the book is that I wanted more scenes with the railroad. The ending left me breathless. I reread the last paragraph a few times. Nothing happened, this dude can just write that well!
heart-wrenching anthology of poetry. explores death, motherhood, identity erasure, xicanisma. Highly recommend.
"In all that living, we have known littlebit love. That littlebit of honey left in an empty jar that traps the sweetness in your mouth long enough to mask your hunger. We have run tongues over teeth to savor that last littlebit as long as we could, and in all our living, nothing has starved us more." Breathtaking debut. I finished this book a week ago and can't stop thinking about it. #themothers #britbennett
This book makes me feel like I am indebted to Junot Díaz - it brought something out in me and I haven't been the same since.
