Midnight Sun | Stephenie Meyer

I loved Midnight Sun and can‘t wait for the next two😅 Twilight is definitely ‘it‘s so bad it‘s good‘ but rereading the saga in between stuff like Taming of the Shrew and Paradise Lost for uni has been such a necessary sort of palette cleanser that I just want to give Stephanie Meyer a hug!

sprainedbrain I thought Midnight Sun was awesome, and I have such a book hangover. 🥺 4y
ReadUntilYourEyesAreRed @sprainedbrain Me too I just wanted it to carry on! Can‘t wait for the next one 4y
ninergrl6 Palette cleanser, indeed! It‘s a great escape from reading so much heavy stuff lately. 4y

Not even ashamed of how excited I am to start this right now!!

Curly_Reader Excited! My preorder isn‘t coming till Friday, I was so upset. I‘m wondering if it‘s even worth traveling to target to pick it up today in this hurricane? 4y
squirrelbrain Is that one of your set books for next year?! Hhmmmm....🤣 4y

I‘ve read quite a few negative reviews for this but honestly I LOVED it. I think because the originals left so many questions to be answered seeing how the Games became what they are in the trilogy is really interesting and Snow was a brilliant protagonist. I thought this book was equally well written and at least as twisted as the others and I would 100% recommend it to anyone who loved the original trilogy.

sprainedbrain I loved it too! 🙌🏻 4y
ReadUntilYourEyesAreRed @sprainedbrain Yess! My only thing was maybe would‘ve liked to hear a bit more from Tigris 🤷‍♀️ 4y

It took me until about half way through this to really get into it, but I ended up really enjoying it, and I‘m actually looking forward to studying it in september now that‘s it‘s finished!

squirrelbrain I read this when I was a teenager - probably about time for a re-read! 5y
ReadUntilYourEyesAreRed @squirrelbrain Absolutely! And it‘s 96p on kindle x 5y
squirrelbrain I still have my original copy on my shelves! 😘👍 5y

Totally in two minds about this book! Overlooking the racist, sexist and imperialist views the actual plot line is really quite good and if you like Victorian gothic sort of stories you‘ll be tempted to forgive the dated attitudes. ‘She‘ is a fantastic character and for that reason I‘m looking forward to studying the text in September, but whilst some of the story is straight out of Indiana Jones you also get 15 pages travelling through a swamp🤔

Hamnet | MAGGIE. O'FARRELL

This take on Shakespeare‘s life is really unique as Agnes is the focus of the novel, whereas Shakespeare is barely mentioned, which I actually really enjoyed. However, I wasn‘t quite ready for how devastating the book was! A worthwhile read as Hamnet‘s story is mostly untold, even studying Hamlet at A-level I never came across him, but it will probably make you cry.

I can‘t wait to read this after listening to the Q&A from Hay Literature Festival, Shapiro is so passionate but straightforward in his discussion of Shakespeare it‘s really refreshing.

This was a bit like a better Eleanor Oliphant! First book I‘ve read in translation from Japanese but the descriptions are really immersive from the first page. Also an extremely quick read, would really reccomend.

The Woman in the Photograph | Stephanie Butland

This book was really genuinely moving, I read it in one day. The protagonist is a young girl who makes a feminist friend and calls off her engagement to focus on her career which is a refreshing standpoint and I thought she was a really likeable character. The narrative skips back and forth to her as an older woman from the start of her career which makes for an interesting narrative. An ‘Every woman should read this‘ sort of book.

squirrelbrain I loved this one too! 💕 5y

I wouldn‘t usually reach for this sort of fantasy novel but this is such an immersive, and imaginative read I would recommend it to any one who likes dystopian fiction. Strangely you immediately connect to the heroine my only critique would be the plot is a little jumpy, but I enjoyed the style of writing. I also spent ten minutes getting a picture of my copy next to this cute little bee in the corner 🐝 😂😂

squirrelbrain Love that you spent so long waiting for a 🐝- the things we‘ll do for a great Litsy pic! 🤣 5y

Set in Singapore, this book is told from the perspective of three women across their lives. Age 16 Szu is lonely as her ex-actress mother ignores her. Amisa, Szu‘s mother tells the story of her growing up and then Szu‘s only friend Circe 17 years later in 2020 is struggling through her divorce. A very well written novel of haunting memories, growing up and friendship.

Read this in one go yesterday, it‘s incredible. Sort of like The Great Gatsby meets You by Caroline Kepnes, completely over the top and compelling critique of the upper class. Also a must read for anyone who loves books based in New York! @squirrelbrain

I loved this book although the change of perspectives was almost a bit unnecessary, I wish it had followed Romy all the way through in a way as Doc didn‘t add a lot. Overall all a very good read ,comes across as almost non-fiction. P.S. lovely to get back to Litsy for summer hot tub reads after the busy exam season :)

Completely heart-rending story and one of the most immersive books I‘ve read in a while. Definitely want to read more from Hosseini, has anyone read “A Thousand Splendid Suns”?⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☕️

TrishB A Thousand Splendid Suns is even better 👍🏻 makes you cry. 6y
Kaye I liked the both. It‘s hard to say which I liked more. I think the second one had characters a female could relate to more so it might be a bit better in that area. Both excellent 6y
Jee_HookedOnBookz One of my all time favs 6y
