It‘s a surreal world that the protagonist enters unwittingly after his cat and then his wife disappear. He encounters a slew of odd women including a pubescent young woman. Our protagonist becomes a guru of sorts who occasionally seeks refuge in a dry well! There are also anecdotal mentions of the Japanese occupation of Manchuria.
