the poet x is poignant & captivating from the 1st poem. xiomara‘s story is written in verse & homework assignments. the inclusion of the assignments allows xiomara to code switch, flow between american english to aave. the conflict between her & her mother is hard to read, making your heart ache for xiomara. this is a brilliantly written coming of age novel i recommend to ya contemporary fans 💫

Brilliantly written, Barbed Wire Heart is a suspenseful, emotional read that captivates the reader right away with a first line that blows them away. “I‘m eight years old the first time I watch my daddy kill a man.” Harley‘s fight for the Rubies - abused women who get away from abusive partners - really drives the desire to end the drug empire in North County. This is a book where the less you know, the better the reading experience

Time of Death was a great read. i grew up reading mystery novels, so i know the genre in and out and can usually guess who the « bad » guy is. For Lucy Kerr‘s debut, my guess was WRONG. and i was actually glad for that! i loved this story, and i am eager for the next one. if you are looking for a fun, easy read, i highly recommend this one.

i enjoyed SHADOWSONG more than WINTERSONG. SHADOWSONG is darker, and more about Liesl‘s madness than the Underground and the Goblin King. Beautifully written, SHADOWSONG is a brilliant sequel that leaves the reader satisfied.

I devoured Wintersong when it came out last year, and I‘ve been dying to read the sequel. So far, it is as lusciously written as Wintersong. I hope the Goblin King makes an appearance soon.

In this world, beauty is valuable. It‘s a commodity controlled by The Belles. Camilla Beauregard is a Belle, and she wants to be the most powerful Belle. The Belles is a magical book that takes you on a journey to a beautiful, but scary world. The Belles are treated less like Gods and more like slaves in this world. Camilla‘s voice is strong throughout the story, one that doesn‘t want to let you go. I‘m hooked. I‘m excited for the sequel.

This is my second time reading Never Fade by Alexandra Bracken. I loved it just as much as I did the first time I read it. Ruby continues to grow, and the story went from dark to even darker. I‘m rooting for the children to win in the end. I haven‘t read the third book yet, so I‘m very excited to continue this story.
