This is a memoir by the model who starred in the “Cherry Pie” music video in the 80s. I was expecting a fun, sexy beach read, but walked away from it feeing sad. She was obviously raised to think her job is to be pretty. She seems to have no other ambition.
I‘m a junkie for Beatles books. This one is by a guy involved in the production of some of their later albums. He doesn‘t like George Harrison
At this time last year, I was reading Hue 1968, about the decisive battle in the Vietnam War. This book is about the events that led up to the war.
“According to one journalist, ‘[Donovan] was as un-sexy as anyone could get and still be identifiably one gender or another‘”
“Tonight feels like a board game co-designed by M.C. Escher on a bender and Stephen King in a fever”
“People are masks, with masks under those masks, and masks under those, and down you go”
This book is fascinating.
My favorite lines: “when you get aroused playing Scrabble, that‘s love, baby”; “Richard, take a drink. You are so goddamned dull when you‘re not drinking”
I love language. I love learning about how languages evolve. I love words. Lately, I've decided that I'm going to obtain a PhD in linguistics. Therefore, this book is the bomb.
