Loving it so far!
Strong narrative, with an unlikely heroine. At first I was a bit confused by the way in which the author jumped around on the time line. However after a bit, I looked forward to seeing whose story wold be told next. I was also unfamiliar with the various “social experiments” undertaken, the vastness of the Underground Railroad and the relentlessness of the runaway slave hunters. It is a story that will stick with me for some time.
This book had been on my to read pile. The concept was good. I loved the wartime story as well as the present day one. However, parts of the connection were lost to me. I also wish the author took a bit more time developing the “after”. The pages covering 1945 to 2007 passed quickly. Overall I liked it and it would have made a great book club read.
Started out slow. And it took me awhile to see exactly where the story was going. It was well researched, covering a subject that is not over done. It was interesting that the author chose to include the perspective of a German women doctor. Many books covering that era ignore the motivation of the German characters. I found her real. It not sympathetic.
Definitely some great twists and turns in this one. I did figure out pieces of it before the end.
