I loved this book--converging stories of families connected by the most tentative ties. The Las Vegas setting provided a novel perspective. I loved the way different threads were tied together at the end, bringing real characters, unique but united in their humanity, together, with a message of hope. I cried.

Stopped into the bookstore for one book to read on the train. This should cover me for a few commutes.

Perfect title for today's weather/reading. Eerie and full of suspense. There is even a spooky well in it, something like ours (not exactly, thankfully). I'm loving it. #MAKEROOMMAKEROOM @Liberty

I loved it. I'm wary of 'the girl' books, but this held my interest. Great twists. I'm blogging about other reading at somanyyarns.com so please stop by some time.

Ok I am only one chapter in so far, but I love the beginning, the writing, and the story so far. Totally pulling me in.

Started thinking I should stop reading post-apocalyptic fiction since it is seeming all too real. Then I read this. Not sure how that'll play out by the end of the story though! Compelling story so far.

Reading this for teacher training--it's much better than I had expected for homework. Readable, not pedantic, fairly pragmatic. So far. Coffee and knitting are making everything better too!

My weekend projects. The book is a memoir by a woman who was kidnapped in Somalia when she was working as a freelance reporter. Honest, terrifying, and gripping--this was a great read.

Dolly Are you knitting too? 8y
Kirstyb @Dolly I was winding wool for a project, but yes, usually I am knitting too--especially now that it's a little cooler here. 8y

Loved this original, fast-paced story about the power of words. How could a book-lover not be drawn in? Passing this one around to my reading pals.

This is by a river, but anyway. The story was good--I was pulled in from the beginning, the night of a tsunami. The magical, eerie developments that followed were fascinating too. By the end, I felt that things were happening too fast, but maybe I just wanted the story to go on!

I'd forgotten how much I love fairy tales, until I was immersed in this one, as if under a spell, from the first few pages. A story of friendship, magic, power, and love, with strong female characters (and a tower, and dragons!), this story was everything.

I loved the Kitchen House, and was delighted to see this in the library shelf. Totally compelling story, with characters from The Kitchen House. The main characters were interesting, and human in their weaknesses. Set in Philadelphia, as well as the south, the local interest elements appealed to me.

I read this as an Early Reviewer for Library Thing. I liked the book as a whole, and some poems have definitely stayed with me. The last part of the book has a great sense of place throughout, taking me back to my Ontario roots.

The story of a poet and a painter, finding themselves and each other again. The prose was like poetry in so many places; I marked many phrases to come back to for the pleasure of reading them again.

Oh I loved this. Magical, creepy, but over too soon. YA I think, if not it should be as it's all about unique young people finding their place in this world or mysterious others. This one will stay with me.

A good solid detective story that kept me guessing until the end. On a weekend, especially, that's just what I want to read.

Almost read this in one sitting I was so into it. Exactly the kind of story I want from Jen Lancaster. The main character made me crazy though; I wanted her to say No a lot more often.

Fantastic summer read about rites of passage, set in a vineyard. Evocative, real, family story.

Interesting, complicated, probably best if you're super into science, especially physics. Just learned it's one of a series, and I'll probably read the next one.

Kirstyb Very original, IMO. 8y

This was an Early Reviewer book from Library Thing and I struggled with the first chapter--the writing, the style of narrative, the character all challenged me. Once I got past my own need for structure I enjoyed the creativity of this coming of age story of an Irish girl in London studying theater.

Coming of age novel set in NYC's restaurant industry. I loved the writing, and the story kept me engaged.

Donna_sBookMinute I had added this to my stack. Never noticed, until seeing your close-up of the cover, that the wineglass is broken. This adds a bit of intrigue or enticement to know the story. 8y

This is one of those books you read quickly because you SO want to know what happened--but you really don't want to finish it because you're enjoying it so much. The story of a girl who vanishes into the mist, it was compelling to the end.

Donna_sBookMinute Damn! I should've stopped at your review and just clicked the "to read" button. Instead I read more reviews and came across a spoiler -- for me anyway. Wow. 8y

Just finished reading this for book club, and I was captivated. Fascinating life story. Now I'll have to read West with the Night and Isak Dinesen again. Fine with that! Continuing with this week's theme of strong women breaking the 'rules.'

Donna_sBookMinute Hmm. I have "The Paris Wife" but haven't read it. Think I'll break tradition and read this one first. 8y
