Preparing for the most depressing (but absolutely vital!) school year.
The imaginary conversations are proving to be just too unbearable. I feel like I understand the author's need to captivate with dialogue but it just feels like historical fiction that is based on factual information?
Bless. This book was incredibly heartbreaking but surprisingly a really easy read. The author's courage to expose herself in an effort to raise awareness for her son's brain health issues is admirable and really highlights what a truly caring parent she was and still is.
"If you bear iguanas, we'll raise iguanas."
?❤️?❤️
I can't praise this book enough. It's so brilliantly common sense. 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Devouring this book. Only putting it down to pet my dog / tell the Internet how amazing it is.
Completely consumed with this genius work.
"The rules of geography, which Hannibal, Sun Tzu and Alexander the Great all knew, still apply to today's leaders."
????????
"Whatever the distinction - naughtiest, loudest, most violent - the boys always fielded the most extreme candidate."
??????????
So this book won loads of awards and I expected it to be fantastic. It was a page turner, a captivating story, but that ending. That ending!!!! Ugh if everything in life could be so nicely tied up and picture perfect. Completely disappointed, unfortunately. 🙁
"Sometimes I think it's better to suffer bitter unhappiness and to fight and to scream out, and even to suffer that terrible pain, than to just be... safe. At least she knows she's living." ?✊?
Before reading: ugh not another book about WWII, honestly. 🙄🙄
20 minutes later: can't. put. it. down.
Embarrassingly crying at my desk, embarrassingly crying on the train, unembarrassed crying on my sofa: my day in a nutshell.
There were often times I would skim entire pages because I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen. So intense. 10/10 will read again (maybe beginning now).
Currently crying at my desk. Gahhhhhh this book is heartbreaking. 📚😫😭💔
Preparing materials to teach this gem. 🐷
