I'm embarrassed to admit it took me a very long time to get through this, because it was an excellent read! Twist after twist after twist - interspersed with poetic descriptions. A true 5*, gripping tale (if maybe a teeny tiny bit too long!)

"It was a glorious evening, the sun seeming to hesitate in the process of setting, as if it couldn't bear to end the day. It was teetering on the horizon, throwing ribbons of pink and mauve across the sky like life ropes, and the air was sweet with jasmine." Man this chick knows how to write! Love a bit of #KateNorton!
"Beyond the water was the great green stretch of the park. Alice could never look at it without thinking of the Second World War. There'd been ... vegetables in rows, the whole expanse given over to productive purpose ... as if a starving, bomb-bartered nation might somehow be fed with the pickings from His Majesty's royal vegetable patch ... the people of Britain would not be starved out. They would win the war, one vegetable patch at a time."
The premise of this was amazing and it started so promisingly! It's a shame Parks felt the need to introduce the predictable twist that she did - detracting from what could have been a really interesting concept - a concept of which would have stood up itself without the need for a "clever" turn. Certainly not an unenjoyable read, but doesn't reach its full potential unfortunately. #thestrangerinmyhome #adeleparks
"How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world."

I've struggled to find a review that fits with my own reaction to this book ... call me heartless but I really failed to get the hype. Yes, the story is sad and the author a truly incredible woman (fostered over 150 kids), but the way in which it was written felt more like a diary with way too much information. A short book but I got bored ... sorry! #nobodysson #reallife #truestory #fostering
I was a bit sceptical at reviews that this is the 'new To Kill a Mockingbird' but on finishing this masterpiece it's not far off! Such an effortless, academic, moving, intelligent read. Maybe not the best book to start during labour (yup, true story!) but simply wonderful. #smallgreatthings #blackorwhite #race #racism #prejudice #midwife #baby #jodipicoult
Don't be put off by the chick-lit appearance - this tear jerker will stay with you long after the closing pages. First (and only, come to think of it!) book that ever made me cry! #thefirstlastkiss #tearjerker #aliharris
Unfortunately didn't live up to expectations ... definitely readable but not exactly unputdownable, if I'm honest! #afteryou #jojomoyes
I'll start with an obvious but a goodie to set the scene of my literary interests ... one of my best ever books in recent times! Must-read! #mebeforeyou #classic #jojomoyes
