I couldn't put this one down. Although maybe a little predictable, the writing was completely gripping and fast paced.

My Cousin Rachel | Daphne Du Maurier

The overall storyline was a little interesting, so I kept to it, but overall I severely disliked Phillip, the protagonist, and near the end started to dislike Rachel as well.

Phillip was entirely pompous and naive while Rachel was manipulative and hard to read. What an awful couple! I ended up not even caring about how it all ended. Not worth the read.

Long Black Veil | Jennifer Finney Boylan

This one was a hard one to get into at first because I wasn't grasping what the author was trying to do from the multiple viewpoints but after I caught on, it was actually pretty insightful. It was very interesting reading a continuous plot line from multiple mental states and viewpoints although more could probably have been elaborated.

I was so entranced with this book that is was impossible for me to quit thinking about it after I was forced to set it down. The depth of dmitri's depression really spoke to me, and by the end I was nearly in tears. The whole book was beautiful..

The Ballad of Black Tom | Victor LaValle
Pickpick

While a very short novel, I was instantly invested in the plot line. LaValle captures the internal struggle of a black man in 1920s Harlem and the unexplainable oddity he uncovers. Definitely worth the read.

While I really enjoy this author's style of writing and ability to flow through a plot line very nicely, the mystery in this novel just didn't prove interesting enough for me through the entire book.

I didn't have high hopes for this title going into it, I can't really say why, but I was sorely mistaken. Masterfully written and thoroughly engaging, Alexander kept me engaged without losing me on lengthy foreshadowing. I was very impressed, and will be looking into more of this series.

I really wanted to give this novel a pick rating, because for the entirety of the first half it had me captured. The problem, for me, is that it lost my interest near the second half and the ending, where for most novels there would be a climax. I found the book very interestingly written, and the overall plot line to be amusing, but there wasn't a great enough climax to be deemed a truly great novel.

A Green and Ancient Light | Frederic S. Durbin

I really enjoyed this book! Even when the storyline was a little slow, my interest was still peaked just through the author's writing style because it was so eloquently written! What an enchanting and wonderful story!

Overall, it had such good potential, but ended up being pretty blah. I didn't care for the author's writing style, there was something almost disconnected about it. I started to get hooked near the middle and then it lost me again, but I was in too deep at that point to throw in the towel. The opera was long and drawn out, the ending was rushed, and the overall story explanation was weak.

A Brilliant Death | Robin Yocum
Pickpick

I loved this book. I was hooked from beginning to end! I loved the dynamic between the two boys, and the storyline between them kept me totally on the edge of my seat. I couldn't put this one down. Although I was hopeful for some happier events near the end, the ending was very well done and written perfectly.

Gilded Cage | Vic James

This book was a little slow to get into for half of it, I found Luke's point of view to be kind of dull at first, but near the end I couldn't stop until it was finished!

I See You: A Novel | Molly McAdams

The moment I starting reading this book I was obsessed. I love the authors writing style and how she laid out this excruciating love triangle.

Confess: A Novel | Colleen Hoover
Bailedbailed

I just couldn't force myself through this one, the writing style was far too juvenile for my taste. It had me picturing the main character around the age of 13, rather than the 21 she was supposed to be portrayed as.

I also am not fond of books that use pictures as descriptors, the author should be able to convey that in descriptive writing.

I had trouble finishing this book, mostly because the detail in which the author goes into with Celeste and her...exploits. It was an all around cringe worthy novel. I did, however finish the book purely out of curiosity as I was trying understand the mind of a sexual predator. It was very eye opening..

I liked this novella a lot better than Queen Song. It was written better and helped shine some light on the early beginnings of the scarlet guard.

Personally, this is a very poorly done and rushed backstory, especially near the end. I recommend not wasting your time reading it as it contributes little to nothing to the actual series.

Definitely going to have to look into this series. I thoroughly enjoyed the storylines of the detectives and of the victim. I was engaged throughout the entire book.

Fate of Perfection | K. F. Breene

It was a little hard to get into, especially with the eye roll worthy banter, but eventually I got into it and found myself fairly enjoying the storyline. I felt like the futuristic aspect of it all wasn't touched on as much as it could have been. Their lifestyles and items were briefly explained in minimal detail and the circumstances leading up to how their civilization became weren't even discussed.

The Water Clock | Jim Kelly

I'm sure this book has some sort of a hook to it at some point, but I just couldn't do it. I couldn't get past the first chapter, it was so slow and uninteresting that I decided it wasn't worth it to force it.

I'm struggling with how to rate this book because, for me, I enjoyed the storyline to a certain degree. I also plan to read the other installments. What keeps this book from a top rating from my point of view is the overall unoriginality of the underlying storyline. I mean, it's basically the same plot you see over and over in YA books. Overall, the story was written well and paced nicely. 3.5/5 stars.

Say You're Sorry | Michael Robotham
Pickpick

This is the first book in a long time where I could absolutely not put it down! I was thoroughly engaged throughout the entire storyline. This author really knows how to tell a story! One thing I will say, I was a little disappointed with the ending, it felt a little rushed and under detailed but overall very, very good book!

While I enjoy the overall story, this book in the series was a little dull for me. Honestly I had to push myself through it so I could start on the next in the series. It started slow, there wasn't really a climax, and it ended slow.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The relationship between the main character and this woman was so enticingly toxic, it reminded me of some of my own mishaps.
