About 50% through. I'm impatient to find out what the big secret is. The story has been exciting but I feel like the writing is a bit clumsy. I need to read carefully and sometimes must reread sentences to get the full meaning. The romance is definitely present but feels slightly contrived.

An entertaining read if you're looking for a watered-down fantasy novel light on plot but heavy on romance (PG-13 romance: kisses and touching). Heavy on killing (not too graphic), light on profanity. It was predictable and didn't have any major plot twists. I don't think I will be reading book 2
