I select 12 books, throw them in a chapter one cage match, and read the "winner" first. Brutal book culling helps me stay on target.

A cathartic read that lists Trump's most insulting actions before the author delightfully skewers each one in lewd and masterful ways. Pennyfarthing delivers his barbs in a gentleman-scholar-meets-Victorian-brawler way, which makes the most perverse insult seem almost quaint and always appropriate. Humor is the only way I can handle political discourse today.

Disturbingly funny book for days when political madness is too serious and overwhelming.

A gory clash of the Gods that reads like an action thriller packed with dark humor, absurd romance, fantastic mythos, and dysfunctional family drama. And then it goes BUGNUTS in a delightful way. Bonus points for the audiobook narrator, who had me laughing despite my terror. Not for the meek. Great for fans of Gaiman and Grant Morrison.

I listened to the whole book in a day, so that's a good sign. Rosario Dawson does a nice job, but I couldn't help but wonder how Aisha Taylor would have read it. I kept thinking I was listening to Laaaaannnnaaa mixed with Han Solo as a sassy young smuggler on the moon. It had a few too many heartwarming lessons to teach, but the cast of characters was a great mix of sci-fi faves. It hooked me just as I was eyeballing another shiny cover.

It was one of the books to survive my multiple Battle of The Books these past few months. And while I was not completely enthralled throughout, I did return to it regularly (when I needed to give a more intense read out of my head), and finished with a favorable impression). Very lovely descriptions of a very beautiful country, and a rogue-ish main character kept me involved to the end, which is not easy with my attention span. Solid B for me.

Such a fantastic read, and an unexpected conclusion. Loved it so much, I'm going to read it with my peepers next. It's definitely a great production by Audible, too. The actors never failed to deliver every line in this book, managing to keep me planted in the author's world the entire time. I only wish more pages were devoted to the sport of lady boxing in such a genteel era. Perhaps a sequel will bring more info about these brave brawlers.

Saknicole Yessss! The audiobook was so good too! 🎉 It is such a unique book and gave me all the good Tipping the Velvet nostalgia. 7y

Add it to your Margaret Atwood favorites.
Read it along with Gate to Women's County
(by author whose name I forgot since college,
but it was an awesome read nonetheless).
This book is a bit prophetic, methinks. Be afraid.

Leniverse Sheri S. Tepper 🙂 7y
Emmadash Yes, I wasn't sure, and I didn't want to guess or lock myself out of the review. I am still figuring this place out. Anyway, Tepper's book has stuck with me for decades. So, pretty powerful reading, I'd say. 7y
