An amazing premise with fascinating subjects fell short, with repetitive prose that shied away from the psyche of these twisted women, almost completely sidestepping the patriarchal structures that underpin each tale. Not exactly gripping, Woollett lacked the grit to really commit to these characters in all their awfulness, merely focussing on the propensity for women to blindly follow male direction, usually via a path of sexual obsession. 2.5/5

This is some beautifully written, meandering prose that journeys through a post apocalypse by gliding by on the edges. Ultimately, as lovely as the language is, I was left only a glancing impression of the world of the novel, and left further adrift by the protagonists and their inability to move me, or invite me to think about some of the ethereal concerns of the book. Beautiful yet bizarre.

On a cold, wet, wintery day; Austen and chill. Hilarious, self-reflexive Gothic flavours, and loads of cleverness. Loved it!
