Growing up I knew people from families like this… homeschooling, keeping off the “feds watchlist”, trusting that 100% of everything is God‘s plan, even injuries or fatalities. I know a lot of people think that many things in this book are sensationalized and maybe some of them are, but growing up around people like this, I tend to believe the author. I have a lot more to say about this book but@it will take more than 451 characters.

SamAnne I believe the author. I live close enough to some crazy, messed up insular communities. 2y

It was an interesting story idea, but I felt it lacked the bones to be truly good, and in the end, I kind of wished Dana hadn‘t succeeded in saving her many times removed great grandfather that first time, just so the story would be over. It was almost a DNF.

I was gifted the whole set and was encouraged to read all of them before I made final judgment, but this first book has a lot problems.

Pogue I did not finish the first book. 2y

A sweet historical fiction spending over 30 years. Well, the storyline is not fast paced. It was fast enough to keep me interested. It is set at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, but that is a small part in the life story of the main character.

I saw a lot of mixed reviews of this book but I really enjoyed it. Although I still can‘t forgive Aunt Lydia…

It was a re-read for me.

I really liked the book and would have enjoyed it so much more if I could have figured out George…he was pointless. Not too bad for a debut novel though. Another book this year that made think about how I interact with my loved ones.

They are definitely getting better. I think there‘s three more in the series and I‘m looking forward to seeing where she takes the story.

I enjoy multigenerational books very much so this book was able to keep me interested pretty easily. I read it because a POC suggested I should, to get a glimpse into their life experiences and challenges growing up Gen x especially when it comes to colorism.

Freaked my husband out when I started reading this book….he thinks I‘m too young to worry about this 😂 But I want to go into aging with a clear plan to make it to 100. I think this book has MANY useful tips and ideas. It‘s a quick read.

I bit the bullet and decided to read the second book in the series. It is definitely better than the first, a lot more intense, and way more enjoyable. I‘m going to take a break from this series and read some thing a little more educational, because I feel like my brain is mush from all of the fantasy teenage angst. 😂

This is one of those books that makes you say “what??” But not in a curious or surprised way. The start of the book had a good base and could have been fun or interesting but the second half of the book broke out into chaos and left me confused. Smudge was the most interesting character, but everyone had serious personality defects. All of that being said, I kind of enjoyed it. 😂

SilversReviews This was a good one. Thanks for the reminder. 2y

Even with the plagiarism from Dirty Dancing, the overuse of the word “incredulous”, and the desperation to prove she‘s not Bella Swan, I still liked to this book. I‘m not in any hurry to read anymore that follow though.

I loved this book! The imagery is beautiful and the story/plot is well thought out. The fact that this is a debut novel makes me super excited for any more books she has written.

Wow this book was blunt. While the story was a good idea, the lack of imagery, and the fact stating really turned me off. I almost didn‘t finish it.

I enjoyed this book, but I felt it was really slow getting started. I also didn‘t expect for it to trigger thoughts of my own end of life. I enjoy the sense of community and family. I felt like the author truly understands what it means to be part of a family.
