The Bear and The Nightingale is a richly layered magical fantasy story that I could not put down. Half way through it became my favorite book of the year, and by the end it's become one of favorite books of all time. Katherine Arden has the ability to pull you into the story with the characters. Her writing is detailed and vivd, and written in a way that you experience the story instead of just reading it. . I can not recommend this book enough.

Quirkybookworm I know, right? Wait til you read the Girl in the Tower! 6y

Meddling Kids | Edgar Cantero

This book has been a little hard for me to review, I overall liked the premise and many aspects of the story, but I also have some issues with it. Meddling Kids pays homage to many of the kid detective series of the past like Scooby Doo, Hardy Boys, The Famous Five. I really loved that aspect of the book, I enjoyed catching the comments and references. And the first 1/2 to 2/3 of the book was pretty well done but the ending was too busy.

I liked this, it did feel more like a novella than a full book, but overall enjoyed the writing style and think that the story is good. It's creative and different and I'm interested in the other stories set in the same world. I actually found the non-main characters more interesting than the main chatting

I loved this book, I've read Everything Everything by the same author and while I liked it ok I didn't love it, this book however had me invested from chapter one, I loved the story and the characters, the story felt personal and the vignettes were wonderful, just these little peeks into someone's thoughts. It was beautiful story that tugs at your emotions.

TheBookHippie We read this for bookclub! Fun discussion! 8y
saguarosally I feel guilty but I really liked EE so I hope this is good also! Still on Mount TBR though. 8y
Bookendsandbindings @TheBookHippie I chose this for bookclub as well we are meeting in Tuesday I can't wait to see what the others thought of it 8y
Bookendsandbindings @saguarosally I don't think you should feel guilty for liking EE, to be honest I caught on to the twist pretty early on so I read it as a munchusen by proxy book almost from the start. I actually enjoyed that it addressed that as there are not really any YA books that address that topic. 8y
Jenni_Capps I LOVEDDDD this book!! I found you from Insta! Welcome to Litsy!!! ♥️♥️♥️ 8y

I enjoy reading romance and I've read and liked other books by N.J Walters. This book features a main character Darius who is the son of a human woman and a dragon. I really enjoyed this one, I think the characters are fun and interesting, there's enough suspense and action to keep it interesting, and it's definitely one of the better shifter romances I've read.

I have to say I didn't think that I was going to like this as much as I did. I really liked the characters and I think that although it's based on Cinderella the story is different enough that it doesn't feel like just another re-telling. I'm excited to continue the series.

This book was everything I wanted it to be, it was nice to finally read a book that completely lived up to my expectations. The writing is well done and the characters are diverse and interesting. A YA book with no love triangle. Fantasy,1920's, a bit of magic, and a wonderful female friendship.

I really enjoyed this book, I don't know that I would really consider it a suspense, but it's a solid mystery and the writing is fantastic. It's strength I think is in its commentary on human nature.

I was pleasantly surprised with this, it was nice YA mystery/thriller. It was a bit slow in the beginning but picked up towards the end. Could have used a some more character building, but for anyone who grew up watching the original scream movie it's worth a read.

MrBook Great review. Interesting pic. 8y

I really enjoyed, and was pleasantly surprised by this book. The writing quality is great, the story is interesting and written with an honesty about life in 1906 that is not often seen in historical YA. I feel as if the writer put a lot of herself into the main character. Definite pick.

Coleen Jennifer Donnelly is good for historical fiction! 8y
Bookendsandbindings @Coleen I really liked how she didn't shy away from the reality of life. 8y

This was a wonderfully done 2nd book in the series, the writing is beautifully done, the characters diverse and interesting, the fantasy elements on point, and just a touch of romance. This one I slower paste for the first 2/3, but not in a bad way, last 1/3 fast paced, and ends on a cliff hanger.

I really liked the first book in this series A Darker Shade of a Magic and I can't wait to start reading the book 2. Anyone else a fan?

elkeOriginal Yes! LOVE. I keep debating reading this though until closer to when Book 3 comes out in Feb 2017 so I remember all the important bits! 8y
anrobe I haven't read these yet but I hear great things! 8y

I had a hard time finishing this book, the premise is great, but the writing just didn't live up to the potential for me. I'm over the insta-love, love triangles in YA. The book had a lot of diversity, but the main characters were kind of blah. Overall it was just ok. And I really wanted to love it.

Really liked this book, a little gothic, and dark. It takes place in Coney Island and Manhattan in the times of sideshows. Characters are interesting and their lives are intertwined. Some good twists throughout and really picks up 1/2 way through, and a satisfying ending.

I though this was really good, a little dark and twisted, which I love, and the illustrations were very well done. Multiple short stories combined in one graphic novel.

This is a favorite series for me, by one of my favorite authors. This story is about Kelandry who at 10 years old wants to become a knight, and to have the same chance as the boys. She is strong, and funny, and kickass, all the while maintaining who she is. It's a quick read the the 1st of 4 books

It took me awhile to get into the story, as it starts a bit slow, but I'm very glad that I stuck it out. The writing is beautiful, and while the story doesn't have much action until the last 3rd of the book,I really enjoyed it. The characters are well written and I'm excited to continue this trilogy

I liked, but I didn't love it, I have some issues with the story. I overall liked the characters and their hints of magic, but found a lot of the story would tell you that something happened but not give you the scene. Like their was a fight, but no detail. This book suffers from a lack of detail.

This book was simply beautiful, the writing was so well done, and perfect. This is a book that will have in tears so be prepared. This is a book that handles WW2 and the Nazie invasion so well, while diving into the grey areas of life, and what family means.
