Nellie Bly's Ten Days in a Mad-House is very informative about the treatment of patients- mentally ill or not- in an insane asylum during the 19th century. It also shows how incompetent "medically trained physicians" can be. I think this book symbolizes that no one really knows how a person without sanity thinks and acts, and because of that people who do not deserve to be in medical facilities are.
