I had the opportunity this week to speak with Michael Collins, White House correspondent for USA Today, as part of my on going series: My Reading Life

wanderinglynn Yay, someone else who didn‘t like Hillbilly Elegy! 👍🏻😂 5y
sarahbarnes Cool! 5y
BookishMarginalia @wanderinglynn I didn‘t either — I thought it was a lot of generalization based on personal experience. 5y
Librarybelle @wanderinglynn @BookishMarginalia I also didn‘t like the book...so glad I found others who had a similar reading experience! 5y
wanderinglynn @BookishMarginalia @Librarybelle As someone who grew up in the southern Appalachians (East TN), I was offended. He made his experience sound like that‘s how it is in the entire region. The coal mining country of KY is different than where I grew up. Besides, dude went to Yale. So puh-lease. The tone of his book read like an arrogant Ivy leaguer who thinks he has all the answers. Besides, he grew up in OHIO, not the south. 5y
