#LitsyToB25
A new week with opening round matches!

Headshot versus The Book of Love is the prompt of which we were most divided. The Book of Love has won with just one vote more than Headshot.
In the #ToB25 Headshot did make it to the next round so all of us can be happy!

Suet624 Sadly I haven‘t read either of them. 1d
fredthemoose Oooh, interesting… those are two very different books! 1d
Jas16 Have to admit I wasn‘t very invested in this matchup although I did vote for Headshot. 1d
Lesliereadsalot Have not read either of these. But did run out and get The Book Censor‘s Library! 1d
Bookwormjillk I haven‘t read these yet. Soon! 24h
BarbaraBB @Jas16 I felt the same! 24h
BarbaraBB @Lesliereadsalot That‘s good! You have to read @Hooked_on_books review! 24h
squirrelbrain I agree too @Jas16 - I didn‘t love either of them…. 24h
BarbaraBB @Suet624 You‘ve not missed much if you ask me. Headshot was okay, I bailed on The Book of Love but later I thought I should have read on a bit longer because many people ended up liking it 24h
Suet624 Oh, good to know. I had the book of love in my hands at the library and I just wasn‘t getting the pull to take it home with me 24h
Hooked_on_books @Suet624 @BarbaraBB Try the audio. I don‘t think I would have made it through the print because it takes so long to get going. But I got invested by hanging on with the audio and ended up really liking it. 23h
Hooked_on_books @Lesliereadsalot Book Censor is SO good! 23h
Megabooks @Hooked_on_books agree 💯💯💯 January LaVoy‘s narration was great!!! @Suet624 @BarbaraBB 22h
Hooked_on_books @Megabooks I‘ve always thought she was fine as a narrator but didn‘t get the raves. Then I listened to this one and Good Dirt close together and see how good she is. 22h
AmyG @BarbaraBB Same. Headshot was ok….I like the idea of it more than the actual book. I bailed on The Book of Love and thought the same. (edited) 22h
Suet624 @Megabooks @Hooked_on_books thanks! I‘ll see if I can grab it from the library 21h
Butterfinger Both of these were so-so for me. I had no preference. 20h
kwmg40 I'd only gotten halfway through The Book of Love before I had to return it to the library and am now waiting for it again. I've been enjoying the story so far, and I've always liked the strange worlds Kelly Link has created in her stories. I had liked Headshot too but ended up giving my vote to The Book of Love, so I'm happy to see it advance. 19h
sarahbarnes I didn‘t feel as strongly about the outcome here, so happy to see one match up go each way! 17h
Well-ReadNeck OMG! I luuuurrrrrrrrved Headshot!! I thought that the judgment did a nice job of finding some shared themes and ways to compare. And put a finger on some of the things I couldn‘t quite articulate about how I felt about both books. Co-sign 💯 13h
BarbaraBB @Well-ReadNeck I was happy with the judgment and their rationale too. 12h

This book was a treat — a super fast paced sci-fi ghost story. Elements felt a little repetitive or all talk/no show, but so much of this was lyrically delicate, super descriptive body horror. This is the author‘s first novel - I‘m really excited to see where she goes from here.

This book is wild. And not for the faint of heart.

This will likely be my last read of February and it‘s much denser than I was expecting. Think Nnedi Okorafor meets N.K. Jemisin meets The Handmaid‘s Tale.

nelsonmatt890 I like to connect with you and read, lol. 2w

Early reviews of this book were not great and I was NOT going to read it. Then #TOB25 had to go and put it in the tournament so I begrudgingly put it on hold, figuring I might still skip it. I took a little bit to settle into it (not sure I would have made it through in print with my bad attitude) and…I really liked it. Sure showed me!

Soubhiville Haha, sometimes we‘re pushed to do things that end up being for our own good. Lol. I‘m glad you ended up liking it. 3w
Ruthiella That‘s the beauty of following the ToB! The unexpected surprises. 😅 3w
squirrelbrain Hooray! Glad you liked it in the end! 3w
BarbaraBB That is so cool! I still haven‘t had the courage to pick it up! 3w

⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 I liked this better than I expected. Three teenagers die under mysterious circumstances and are brought back to be part of a magical quest that affects them, their loved ones, and their town. Magic is not something I usually seek out, and this took a little bit for me to get into but I eventually did. I do feel like it was about 25% too long and the same ground could have been covered in fewer pages. Soft #ToB25 pick.

willaful I've been vacillating on whether to finish this. Is there a siatisfactory/hopeful ending? It's so creepy and I'm fragile right now. 4w
fredthemoose @willaful I think the “good” characters pretty much ended up in places they were happy with/wanted to be, but it‘s definitely not a must read, so if reading other things is better for you right now, there‘s no reason to force yourself back to it. 4w

What do guitars, carousels, dryer socks, statues, and bears all have in common?

LOVE and MAGIC and MUSIC. Maybe. I think. I think the book showed different ways to love. From the NICU nurse to the writer who introduced her town to inventors of color through statues.

And love, magic, and music can be synonomous.

The writing, at times, was very lyrical. I'm afraid I will forget the characters and their adventures by next week.

AmyG Yeah. I bailed. 😬 4w
BkClubCare Still, I like your review 🤗 4w
Suet624 I got this from the library, but just couldn‘t get myself jazzed up to read it. Returned it today. 4w

There should be more celebrations of practicality and problem-solving had been her opinion. Fewer stated of murderers and the rich.
