Claustrophobic and stifling. Not much seems to change. Most certainly not the protagonist. #shortyseptember22
Now she was in a city that took for granted most men were born to suffer, others to fall asleep during committee meetings of the chamber of commerce.

FINISHED my final prompt for #Booked2020: I‘m excited that I completed it! This was at my bottom of to be read list: recommended by a therapist over a year ago. The other ones were #Gothic or horror: “Mexican Gothic,” #ThinkPink: “ We Have always Been Here,” #Publishedin2020: “Resilience is Futile,” #Bookclubworthy: “Ragged Company,” #SouthAsian “Ghachar Ghochar.”
Although it's a series of short stories, it reads very much like a novel, with characters reappearing and different aspects of the same story being slowly uncovered.
The first story takes place in Colombo in 1939, and from here we're following three generations of two Sri Lankan families in both Sri Lanka and the USA, through their studies, arranged marriages, heartaches, secrets, successes and failures. ⬇️
#wondrouswednesday @Eggs
(1) thought-provoking stories from Ceylon
(2) lip balm, I have super chapped lips (I consider coffee a bare essential 😉)
(3) the 1970s for Led Zeppelin concerts! 🤘
Thanks for the tag @EadieB ❤️

Careful words, unique juxtaposition and a sideways page layout create a layered reading experience in this tender collection of #Canadian #poetry. Family relationships, chronic illness and global injustices are central topics, approached in conversation with the writings of other poets, other chroniclers. #SouthAsian
