This was really helpful: the second time I've read it as part of a discussion group that pushed me to apply the ideas to my own life. Got me thinking more about what being White means, (not just of European descent), my huge range of privileges, and boundaries I put up against recognizing and naming racism. Critiques also worth reading.

Singout @4thhouseontheleft: are you seeing it when I tag you? I'm not!

Still making my way through #nonfiction2020 #somethingaboutsocialjustice - might even get a bingo before Christmas!

Stamped (on audio, read by Jason Reynolds) - incredibly good stuff - a history of racist ideas (but NOT a history book). I learnt loads. I feel like I‘d learn loads more if I re-read it. I also learnt how very narrow my learning has been. It surprised me. I came away with a longer reading list than I started with.

rockpools One day I‘ll read Kendi‘s un-remixed books, but for now this was a fast and furious tour through the topic that made me want to read deeper. 4y
TrishB I‘m constantly being surprised by my narrow learning! But, we want to learn more and that‘s always a good thing. 4y
rockpools @TrishB Definitely! 4y

Noting this book down for #somethingaboutsocialjustice as alot of the people highlighted in this book championed social justice.

Loved this one, no surprise though with Lindy West, who can make you laugh while discussing the most serious of topics. A few felt a bit dated, but most felt like they could have been written today, which is amazing when you consider how much has changed and shifted in just the last few months.

AnneFindsJoy On my TBR, love her humor! What task did you use this for? 5y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @AnneFindsJoy I think I‘m going to use it for #SomethingAboutSocialJustice....because she talks about a lot of current issues currently going on. 5y
AnneFindsJoy @Riveted_Reader_Melissa thanks, good to know, I still need that task too :) 5y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa @AnneFindsJoy It a bit of a stretch there, but that‘s where I‘m sticking it. 😉 5y
AnneFindsJoy @Riveted_Reader_Melissa haha that‘s what I felt about Big Magic for education task.. but I love that this challenge is flexible enough that we can lean toward our interests and still make it work 😀🙌 5y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @AnneFindsJoy Yes, I like that about it too. I‘ve Read a few that could count in more than 1 category too.... I picked Pushout for jail reform/incarceration, but ended up counting it in education, it could have easily fit in either. 5y
