I guess this proves I‘m still not a short story person. The first two stories were well written and compelling enough to keep me going. The third not so much. I read the 4th because I wasn‘t ready to turn out the light but didn‘t want to pick up something new. Bailed at the half way point. #TOB24

Poor Esther… it‘s her 13th birthday and I didn‘t throw a party 🎈
Instead, I checked out a library book about cats!! #shrug 🤷🏻♀️ I needed a poetry collection. #poetrymatters #poemaday #DogsofLitsy #EstherFest #HBD
I bailed on this book the first time round, after only a chapter or two, but when it made the #ToB shortlist I thought I‘d give it another go. It still took me a good while to get into it, but in the end I really enjoyed it.
It‘s not my favourite on the shortlist but I‘m glad I read it. Interesting article below.

Hello Littens, especially you Kindle-Paperwhite users:
I keep doing “something” (assuming it is me?!) that resets the font to the tiniest smallest number. What am I doing? It seems like I do complicated steps to get it back to a readable font so ... I am stumped.
Any helpful guidance would be appreciated. And sympathy too. 😂👓🔎

“For dessert there was a choice of rice pudding or rhubarb pie.” The book I just finished, The Cold Millions, had a reference to rhubarb pie. 💗🥧 #iLovePie #pielit #LitPie #PieinLiterature #CaresBooksandPie
I do love these quotes via the kindle app. #shrug
I don‘t “count” this as a book read like I do other audio books (because it doesn‘t exist in print form), but I really enjoyed this audio memoir by James Taylor. It‘s short and sweet and gives some background to his life and songs.
“... prone to a sportsman‘s vernacular, describing people as “off net“ and seasoning his conversation with clubby expressions.”
Ok, what would OFF NET mean?
I was gripped from start to finish. Wash‘s story of escaping slavery in Barbados and finding a way to make his own life while confronting the traumas he faced, the prejudices across countries, and the constant fear of being recaptured was a page-turner. It addresses the horrors of slavery but doesn‘t reduce to good and evil, also addresses the prejudice of those that were abolitionists. Also love and science and marine animals.
Not sure how/when/who rec‘d this to me but it was fun, for sure. I‘m not sure I will read on though (adding to my list of series where I only read the first then quit it.) Then again, if mobster porn is your thing, you might as well try it! Personally, I just might have to suggest it needs MORE porn. #shrug
