This will be a very polarizing book - #RichPeopleProblems ate definitely my jam but I can see how cringy this could be. I‘m enjoying the narration and atmospheric setting- the Pink Hotel aka the iconic Beverly Hills Hotel 💖🙌🏻 While newlyweds Keith & Kit are honeymooning at the posh hotel, which is beyond their means, the California wild fires are raging out of control and heading towards the city. As the fires near tensions arise. #NetGalley

Cinfhen I‘m thinking this is for you @KarenUK ❣️😘 2y
KarenUK I think you could be right! 2y
Cinfhen The more I listen the more I KNOW I‘m right @KarenUK it‘s definitely your blend of tea xxx 2y

Much of this story is about rich people who act horribly. Budgie made me think of Daisy Buchanan & Lily is so naive it‘s painful. Aunt Julie was my favorite. I thought the hurricane would be a more central part of the story but perhaps that was the point. The story all wrapped up a little too neatly but it was a fun read. #richpeopleproblems

Finally!!!! After 4 hours of listening , I was about to bail but now the book seems to be picking up 😁There has been some redeeming moments but this book feels VERY 2020 and since I‘m living it, not sure I want to read it. ( know what I mean???)

TrishB You‘re good giving it 4 hours! 4y
Cathythoughts I hope it REALLY picks up now 👍🏻. I wonder if Maine is any good 🤔. I might try a sample of it & tagged book too 4y
Centique I do know what you mean! I need my reading to take me away from 2020. 😩 4y

Cinfhen I liked it well enough by the end, but it was too long and too much 2020 angst. Plus #RichPeopleProblems which I wasn‘t in the mood for ~ I‘d say #BorrowNotBuy or #Wait4TheKindleDeal @TrishB @Cathythoughts @Centique 4y
Cinfhen I haven‘t read Maine but I hear it‘s very good @Cathythoughts 4y
TrishB #richpeopleproblems is generally not one of my faves! Unless it‘s historical. 4y
Cinfhen You could easily skip this book @TrishB and not have missed anything/ it‘s similar to 4y
TrishB I‘ll give it a miss 👍🏻 if nothing new. 4y

Found this on #Scribd for #RhodeIsland #ReadingUSA2020 🎧 It was written in 2013 and no one has posted yet....that‘s probably not a great sign 🤨 I listened to the first 3 chapters and it‘s holding my interest. #FeelingOptimistic 💚

Megabooks Surely there‘s a better book from RI?!? 4y
Cinfhen I‘m kind of liking it @Megabooks even though the characters are SO PRETENTIOUS/ I‘m not sure this book would appeal to most readers ~ it‘s a lot of #RichPeopleProblems so #ZeroSympathies 4y
TrishB My least fave genre! 4y
Cinfhen Yeah, it‘s hard to really root for them @TrishB even the baby is a little bit of a jerk 😬🙊 4y

Mehso-so

Eh, I hate to say this because I usually love Jami, but I didn‘t feel anything reading this. I just wasn‘t moved to care, love or hate, when the big reveals were made.

I love All Grown Up. I‘ve read it four times. Every time I cry. Without fail. This book didn‘t even come close to that one.

If I have to choose a #ToB #richpeopleproblems book, it‘s easily Fleishman Is in Trouble. Sorry 😐 2.5⭐️

Prairiegirl_reading Disappointing to hear!!! 5y
Christine I‘m with you on this one. I enjoyed All Grown Up (and Saint Mazie) so much more. 5y
Megabooks @Prairiegirl_reading Yeah, I was very disappointed. 5y

Megabooks @Christine I liked AGU and The Middlesteins more. I haven‘t read Saint Mazie, but I own it. 5y
BarbaraBB Oh that‘s too bad, I had been looking forward to it since @Cinfhen wrote about it. I wasn‘t too much of a fan though of All Grown Up so my expectations aren‘t too high! 5y
Megabooks @BarbaraBB They‘re very different books, so you may like this one. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I wanted to love this book, but when it came down to the end...apathy. 5y
Cinfhen Interesting! AGU ( which I loved) is more of a universal theme and this book might be less appealing to a wider audience. For some reason, the story got under my skin but I could see how the style would leave some feeling detached. Now I‘m more excited for Fleishman but I think you‘re right, Meg. These books probably cancel out each other. I still think you‘re gonna like this one @BarbaraBB 5y
Megabooks @Cinfhen I don‘t know why this didn‘t get to me. Normally I like family drama stories. In fact, I‘d say that‘s a usual go-to. The magic just wasn‘t there. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 5y
Cinfhen I still don‘t get one bit and it‘s bugging me. What was the point/connection to the black man who had a stroke and couldn‘t reach his daughter 🤷🏼‍♀️ a sort of opposite experience of Victor‘s family ??? I thought that storyline might be interconnected but it just fizzled. 5y
Megabooks @Cinfhen yeah, idk what was going on with that. I didn‘t even get why there were those chapters about the coroner and her boyfriend. All that just so his family could dump him in a pauper‘s grave?? 5y
BarbaraBB @Megabooks @Cinfhen I just finished Fleishman and now really want to read this one. As I wrote in my review I ended up being really annoyed by the storyline, even though I liked the book a lot! #richpeoplesproblems 5y
Megabooks @BarbaraBB Just wrote you back a lengthy reply! Managed to keep it to two tags! 😂 5y
BkClubCare Hmmm oh well! I will keep open mind. It will be my first one by this author and my first of the short list 5y
Megabooks @BkClubCare I hope you like it. I‘ve liked her other two I‘ve read, but just not this one. 5y
sueemmy Totally agee with you. I could not connect with any of the characters 5y
Megabooks @sueemmy yeah, it was just very disconnected/mediocre for me. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ 5y

Overall a good book. The critics reviews called this "hilarious" but I wouldn't go that far. It was a fun read but nothing knee slapping. If anything kind of depressing reading about obscene wealth that I know exists in this world. There are for sure people THAT rich and out of touch with the world. If you can get past that part, it's a fun book. I especially LOVED learning all the cultural tidbits that he includes. #richpeopleproblems #julyread

If you hate reading about #RichPeopleProblems then skip this book, but if that‘s your jam then this book is going to be super satisfying. The writing was clever, witty and acerbic although at turns the book veered a little into absurdity. Winn Van Meter, father of the bride and a man so obsessed with status, appearances & pedigree is on the brink of a mid life crisis as he faces the nuptials of his pregnant daughter. Would make an excellent film❣️

Cinfhen I think you‘d love this one @KarenUK and I‘m using it for #pop19 #featuresawedding 💍 6y

LeeRHarry I‘ve read the tagged book of hers and really enjoyed it 😊 6y
CarolynM Don't apologise, I know how it is. I'm only about 5 chapters in but it has got me intrigued. By the way, I always thought Winnifred was a girl's name. Have you ever seen it used as a male name? 6y
BarbaraBB Great review! You read so fast! I hope to finish tonight. And @CarolynM I too only know it as a girl‘s name! 6y
KarenUK @Cinfhen ooh you know me so well! I was already planning on this one for that prompt too! 💕👍 6y
Cinfhen I‘ve seen Winn before for a male @BarbaraBB @CarolynM but I think the full name is Windsor 🤷🏼‍♀️ 6y
Cinfhen I totally want to read that one @LeeRHarry glad to hear it‘s good 6y
thebluestocking I‘m so glad you liked this one! I‘ve had my fingers crossed that it can stick the landing. While I don‘t love it all the time, I find an occasional #richpeopleproblems book can be a nice palate cleanser. 😉 6y
thebluestocking @Cinfhen I always do that with buddy reads, I can never slow down. Looks like this will be a super fast buddy read 6y
