The Constant Princess | Philippa Gregory

“Tell me a story . . . “ I liked this telling of Catherine of Aragon‘s story prior to the whole ugly business with the annulment and the Boleyns. I particularly enjoyed that it didn‘t shy away from the influence Arab culture and war fighting had on her due to the Moorish occupation of Spain. You don‘t often find historical fiction about her that mentions how interesting her own story was - she‘s typically just Henry VIII‘s Rejecto Girl.

It's as wonderful as everybody says it is! 💜 Deep, emotinal, thoughtful, inspiring,... I often had to fight back tears. Michelle Obama is truely a #RemarkableWomen (*a).

This is a novel about a strict patriachal society living on an island by it's own rules. Reading about the daughters' lives in this comunity was really disturbing and it would often have been hard to cotinue, if it hadn't been for the wonderful style of writing.

An insightful, meaningful, concisely and thoughtfully argued book by a v intelligent woman. I knew almost nothing about her going in and have a lot of respect for her now. I‘ll read lots about other candidates when they‘re announced too, but I feel like the free world would be in good hands with this one. The epilogue made me cry in the bath (partly cause brexit is beating me up in the news today, partly cause I‘m exhausted from work :/)

I'm ready for the new year 🙂

In 2019 I want to read books by female authors (or books about women/ the life of women) and to learn more about feminism/ feminist movements. #RemarkableWomen

Also, I am not going to buy any books for myself in 2019 🙈

Emilymdxn Amazing goals and the jars are so cute! Excited to both be doing this at the same time 6y
GripLitGrl Love it!👍 6y
ju.ca.no Good luck with the bookbuying ban - I usually fail horribly at those.😂 I‘m looking foward to reading your book reviews, I‘m sure I will get some interesting recommendations 😍 and I love the idea with the jars! 6y

This will be my first book of 2019 and im starting as i mean to go on - I want to spend this year reading more by women, by poc, books translated from other languages and books I already own so that I can give them away and feel like I‘m not just hoarding dead trees for nothing. This book is all four and it looks incredible

Bradleygirl "hoarding dead trees" is beautifully apt and will make me feel better about purging, thx ✊ 6y
Emilymdxn @Bradleygirl thank you! I always feel like books are fulfilling their function and living how they‘re meant to if they‘re being read and appreciated, but they‘re not made for being stored and displayed, unless they‘re gifts, reference books or favourites I always like to set them free! 6y
Kimzey I admire your reading goals! And I definitely need to read more books that I already own and then set them free! 📚🦋 6y

So excited about finally starting this ?

My reading goal for 2019 is to read books by female authors (or books about women/ the life of women) and to learn more about feminism/ feminist movements.
It's not 2019 yet, but I think "Becoming" is the perfect book to start and I don't want to wait any longer...
