Pronto | Elmore Leonard

In “Pronto“ Leonard introduced his character U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens. There would be two subsequent novels & a story collection that was apparently the basis for the tv series “Justified“ I have only read the tagged book & although it is not my favorite Elmore Leonard, it is still Elmore Leonard.

Eggs Great choice - I have not read EL yet 8mo
vivastory @Eggs I really like him. A few years ago I read Killshot & City Primeval & loved both 8mo
Eggs Thanks 😊 @vivastory 8mo
TieDyeDude I watched the show every week, and am anticipating a rewatch soon. I only read this book recently, but I was delighted with how well the show captured the spirit of Leonard's writing. 8mo
vivastory @TieDyeDude The show is high on my watch list. I've heard only good things about it. 8mo

I've had this in my Audible library for years. As a huge fan of Justified, it was good to see just how true the show was to the written character. The first book in the series, but if you've only seen the show, this is essentially a prequel, detailing the Miami Beach incident that results in the punishment of Raylan being sent back to Harlem County. Makes me want to read more and also watch the show again!

Suet624 Awww... Raylan. 2y
SamAnne Loved Justified! I‘m so out of it I didn‘t realize it was based on Elmore Leonard. Stacked. 2y

#BookReport
I read the tagged novel this week. It is where Leonard introduced Raylan Givens. Although it is not my fave Leonard book, I was reminded of what a great writer he is. Wonderful dialogue. Short stories continue to be my bff. The other book I read was Ronald Malfi's horror debut story collection We Should Have Left Well Enough Alone. Several very uncomfortable stories in it, hard to recommend, but some gems too. 9 stories from (cont)

vivastory Penguin Book of Vampire Stories. Highlights were the Matheson & the Aickman. Also a few audio stories, including Saki's hilarious Reginald's Christmas Revel. Up next? A book of stories. 🙃

🎧 While this might not win a Pulitzer Prize it was fun!

Book 3. Narration was good but if the actor could have read it … ❤️

I watched Justified so I could imagine smooth talking Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) as he‘s written here.

We‘ve got organ harvesting for profit & bank heists, a typical episode!

Short enough to finish in a day.

⭐️⭐️⭐️3/4

Reggie Mmmm Timothy Olyphant… he‘ll always be the Crazies guy for me but that‘s the role that probably got him Justified. 3y

If you‘ve seen the show “Justified” on FX this book includes the novella “Fire in the Hole” which inspired the show. The book also include several other short stories and another Novella. Couldn‘t get in to many of the others. I liked “Fire in the Hole” and loved the show.

Blueberry I loved Justified!! 4y

Pretty good...my first Leonard. How does someone write almost no detail or description and yet the world is so vivid? (Dialogue. The answer is dialogue.)

Hit the used bookstore today (a bittersweet experience for a claustrophobic reader). “Sold” many books (allegedly a check will be in the mail at some future date). Two of the five books I bought were on my list walking in, which is a pretty good ratio, tbh. #bookhaul

A couple of really good stories in this book including Raylan Givens based on the FX series Justified.
