Pickpick

I‘m vaguely surprised that I stuck with this very long audiobook about a 70s porn star/90s director that I had never heard of.

After leaving home for Berkeley and the summer of love, Candida gets caught up in drugs and the 70s golden era of porn production as a star. Later, she pivots to directing movies for women and couples but runs into financial trouble. I liked how Kamensky looked at the larger forces in play during Candida‘s life.

Somebody Else's Daughter | Elizabeth Brundage

Brundage is so underrated, and I enjoyed this one from her backlist despite my copy missing 30 pages. 😱 A bit too much of the thriller action was left until the third act, but the way she unfurled the darkness lurking below the rich families and private school in the Berkshires was fantastic. There is a dog fighting scene that I just skipped. Those are hard passes for me!

CW for sexual assault, too.

BarbaraBB 30 pages missing😱? Is it a Brundage I must read? 1y
Cinfhen What???? 30 missing pages??? That‘s pretty frustrating! 1y
Chelsea.Poole I really like her too! I still need to read this. 1y

The beginning was excellent and the rest was good. Different story line that kept my interest.

The Harbor | Katrine Engberg

Pickpick

The third of Ms Engberg‘s mysteries, and each is better than the last. Jeppe Kørner and Anette Werner have been assigned what is an apparent kidnapping. As the case unfolds, the truth is darker and more twisted than they can imagine. The author allows the story to unspool slowly, and we‘re not sure exactly what‘s going on until the end. The pacing is very well done. Jeppe and Anette face personal challenges as well. Can‘t wait for the next!

Bailedbailed

I truly don‘t intend to be judgmental in my review of this short story. It was not for me. I don‘t mind the language or sexual content and I respect peoples‘ lifestyle choices. I found the plot boring and immature. I received this as a free Audible original ages ago. It has a full cast of narrators that was mediocre. I was expecting it to be more of a dark mystery. I bailed pretty quickly. This just isn‘t a story I want to spend my time with.

KathyWheeler I‘ve had this for quite sometime as well but have never listened to it. 2y
NatalieR @KathyWheeler It seems to have decent reviews on here. You may enjoy it. 2y
