I FINALLY finished this book! I started it about this time 2023 on audio, and then life got in the way of me finishing it then. I bought the Kindle version earlier this year when it was on a great sale, and got around to reading it. I loved being back in Joshi's world, this time following Radha's story (don't worry, Malik and Lakshmi are there too)!

I‘m posting one book a day from my massive collection. No description, no reason for why I want to read it (some I‘ve had so long I don‘t even remember why!). Feel free to join in!

People are not meant to all like the same book.

Tamra You are right! I love Suskind‘s work including this one, but when I don‘t like a popular book I sometimes wonder if I‘m missing something. 5mo

This is a nice vacation read. Grace Monroe seems to lead a good life in 1950s' London aristocracy. She receives an unexpected inheritance from a mysterious lady in Paris, whose identity Grace will be struggling to discover. The storylines of the two ladies unfold beautifully but are too convenient and predictable.

vlwelser I felt the same way about this one. Based on the premise, I expected to like it a whole lot more than I actually did. 6mo

This was a disturbing story. I was fascinated throughout the first part as Grenouille learned all about scents (and horrified by one scene), then a bit lost by the hermit in the hills portion, and again intrigued by the next section. Then things got crazy! I have no words for the ending, but I was completely engaged in listening.

📷: Happy beagle photo to balance out the creepy murders in this story.

tpixie How many of the 1001 books have you read? And when did you start? 😀 9mo

Daisey @jewright The man in this story has no scent of his own, but he can identify any other scent exactly. It makes him a great perfume maker, and then it gets weird. No more details here to spoil the story. It‘s another one from the list! 🤷‍♀️ 9mo
Daisey @tpixie I think I‘m at 265. I started keeping track and reading purposefully in 2018, but I had read some before that. 9mo

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick My assessment is similar. I was a little bored with it, but he last 10% or so of the book turned a bit bonkers! 🤣 9mo
Tkimsal This book has been on my TBR list for like a million years! 8mo
Daisey @Megabooks @batsy @dabbe Thanks! She had a good long run yesterday! 8mo

This has got to be the strangest book I‘ve ever read! I don‘t know quite how to review it but I can say for sure it has definitely enhanced my vocabulary for sure!!!

1 It may be obvious to say books, but I especially loved the smell of brand new school books, cracking them open and sticking my nose right in the middle.
2 A crayon/paint/Play-Doh mix. I taught Montessori preK for 27 years and the smell of a preschool classroom still makes me smile.
4 Weirdly tobacco. I am not a smoker, but I love the smell of pipes and cigars. I even have a candle that smells like them.
@Eggs & thanks for the tag @dabbe

dabbe OMG, the smell of Play-Doh. I'd love to smell your combo, too! And I can totally understand the smells of cigars; they remind me of my grandpa. 💚💙💚 10mo
Cuilin @dabbe yes I think the smell of cigars are a nostalgic reminder of the past. 10mo
Eggs #1 - oh yes that was heaven! Great descriptions 🙌🏻👏🏻 10mo
