Rene Denfeld‘s novels tend to educate readers about the kinds of issues a social worker might encounter regarding underserved, voiceless people. In this novel we meet a boy that was abandoned by foster parents and the sister that uncovers what became of him. I thought it was a well written and satisfying read.
A dark, heavy, but beautiful and brilliant read. I‘m so amazed (again, as I‘ve now read all of her books) at how Rene Denfeld manages to write so poignantly about such trauma. She shines a light on the forgotten in every one of her books. Highly recommend but beware, trigger warnings abound. #readyourkindle
I didn't like this book at all. The characters were boring and not fleshed out. I rated this book a 2 out of 5 stars.
Behold! My wildly and totally out of the realm of any possibility of actually reading all of these TBR for #hauntedshelf! And these are just what I already own/have checked out. I have a separate list of reads I still need to get from the library 😅. But, hey, I‘m a mood reader and a girl has gots to have choices! #skeletoncrew

A favorite school #FieldTrip for me was going to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, Oregon. We got to stay overnight, visit the town & we saw two plays, one was Hamlet & the other I do not remember (it was a non-Shakespeare offering).
Because of this cozy mystery series, set in a bakeshop/cafe in Ashland, I‘d like to go back for an adult field trip someday!
Thanks to @BarbaraBB who knows my book preferences, I found this book. Now I need to read all of Denfeld‘s books. I gobbled this right up. The main character searches for missing children & Madison is 1 of the children she is looking for. This book takes you on a journey. We learn of the child finder‘s background, we move through the cold woods as she hunts for the child, & we listen in to Madison‘s thoughts & situation. I couldn‘t put it down.
Not really my thing. Some of the themes fell flat for me. Especially in the epilogue. I could tell this book was originally a standalone and then it morphed into the first in a series. Ah, well, sometimes it's just not the right fit.
