Mehso-so

Maybe it‘s just my current mood, but I didn‘t love this one. I think I would have liked it more if Part 1 had been the entire book.

rpr007 Did you read Hard-Boiled Wonderland? The walled city is explained more in that book. 2w
rachelk @rpr007 I haven‘t read it — maybe that was part of the problem? 🤔 (edited) 2w

“How I longed to go into the town. Longed to meet the real you. “The town is surrounded by a high wall so it‘s very hard to enter,” you said. “And going out is even harder.”

RowReads1 This is reminding me of Attack On Titan. Not usually my speed. It‘s my ex‘s fault. 3w

“You were the one who told me about the town. On that summer evening we were heading up the river, the sweet fragrance of grass wafting over us. We passed over several little weirs that held back the flowing sand, stopping from time to time to gaze at the delicate silvery fish wriggling in the pools. We had both been barefoot for a while. The cold water washed over our ankles, while the fine sand at the bottom of the river enveloped our feet like

Bailedbailed

I‘m a Murakami fan, but I just could not get into this story. Bailing, but I may try it again when I‘m feeling smarter.

Pickpick

Libraries, jazz, literary references, ambiguity, cats. A very Murakami-esque novel but not one of my favorites. If you love his writing you will probably appreciate it. But some of the themes, reality vs dreams, consciousness, loneliness, love etc are tackled in better ways in his other novels.

3.5 stars. First read of 2025

BarbaraBB That‘s too bad. He used to be so good 1mo
JenP @BarbaraBB I did still enjoy it but just not as much as some of his other works 1mo
BarbaraBB I already felt that way about 1mo

sarahbarnes Bummer, I was excited about this one. Agree with @BarbaraBB that I miss reading his earlier works. Although I did like IQ84. 1mo
BarbaraBB @sarahbarnes I liked it too, I read them in three parts soon after their publication. Maybe that‘s why I was a bit disappointed by the ending, I had been anticipating it for a long time. 1mo
JenP @sarahbarnes I think it‘s still worth reading. If you liked his earlier works. It was fun picking up on the references and nods to other works. And I still found it to be an enjoyable read and a large part of it centers around a library so I did love that 1mo
SilversReviews Love this cover!! 1mo
rpr007 Hard-Boiled Wonderland is a good one to pair with this book. It explains the walled city in more depth. 2w

#WondrousWednesday @Eggs

I hope I'm not too late to play this
2/ City and It's Uncertain Walls - what a brilliant title, just caught my eye, so I'm intrigued
1/ that would be a room with ambient lighting, a fire going on the background, the one that crackles, coffee and a stack of books, yeah, a nice dream 😂 reality where ever I can fit it in

Eggs Love #1 📖 🔥 📚 3mo
