❄️I‘m very much looking forward to diving into this one. Simon Thomas always writes the best, most well informed, and interesting forwards to the British Library Women Writers series. Anyone else got this on order or have plans to read?

-It appears it hasn‘t been added to Litsy yet-

📚📬Bookmail Day!

This one sounds like it could be a good bookclub or group read. Anyone read it?

Tamra No, but it sounds great! 2y
jlhammar Lovely edition. I‘ve not read it yet, but loved Good Behaviour. Definitely want to give her others a try eventually. 2y
Jess_Read_This @jlhammar I haven‘t read Good Behavior either. I‘ve realized I‘ve got to try to get into a few of her novels this year. She‘s an author I haven‘t really read yet. 1y

Pickpick

Delightful! This 1959 gem starts on an odd premise - Jody awakes from a fall determined to figure out why she has a memory of a man walking a goat - then turns into an engaging mystery plus sweet romance. Jody blossoms as a gal coming into her own when refusing to ‘just forget about it‘. The tension builds brilliantly into a dark twist. Loved how the funny, light tone drew me in and then grabbed me by the neck.

batsy Looked her up and wow, these vintage covers https://twitter.com/FurrowedMiddle/status/1496502105481236481?t 3y
elkeOriginal @Karons1 @batsy Those vintage covers are amazing! Her family are republishing her books with these cartoony covers. At first I was annoyed they were not using the original covers, but now am just glad to have the books to read! 3y
elkeOriginal @LeahBergen Do it! I am sure you have the real vintage covers too! 3y

Pickpick

“People‘s people, only in a small town more so. She wrote about people”. 5⭐️

Faith Goodbind wrote about people. And the people of Two River Junction thought she was writing about them. They read the book and saw all their secrets laid bare. The entire town is in an uproar and Faith has no idea. We see the fallout, redemption, and recovery. There is also humor to balance out some of the seriousness. Highly recommend!

elkeOriginal You read this SO fast! Time for me to catch up! 3y
Jess_Read_This @elkeOriginal Don‘t read what I posted about it in the club notes. Very spoilery! I tried to write big warnings too. I couldn‘t put it down yesterday! Plus I refused to do any laundry or chores 😂 (edited) 3y
elkeOriginal I noticed your all caps SPOILERS 😹😹 3y

The Spellbound Village: A Novel | Julia Truitt Yenni

My first buddy read of 2022. It‘s about a young author who has written a book about people in a small town. When people in her town read the novel they begin to identify themselves as the leading characters and “hidden tensions erupt from beneath the surface of village life”. It sounds a bit “Miss Buncle-esque” to me? I could be entirely wrong in my first impression from the book flap.

LeahBergen Miss Buncle‘s Book is a favourite of mine! I can‘t wait to hear what you think of this one (and if I should buy it 😆). 3y
Jess_Read_This @LeahBergen I‘m about 77 pages into it. I‘m liking it so far! Though, I wouldn‘t say it‘s like Miss Buncle‘s Book. The author of the book that has the town in an uproar didn‘t intentionally write it with the townspeople in mind. They are finding themselves in it. Also, this novel doesn‘t have that cozy sort of feeling Buncle gave me. It‘s more serious in nature and concept. But I‘m still very much enjoying it. But not at all like Buncle. (edited) 3y
Jess_Read_This @LeahBergen I think my mind made the comparison when I heard the premise was about a book written in a small town and the townspeople get in an uproar thinking it‘s about them. 3y

LeahBergen Thanks for the update! The coziness of Miss Buncle really adds to the enjoyment of it, doesn‘t it? I‘ll definitely keep this one on my radar, though! 3y
Jess_Read_This @LeahBergen I finished it last night and absolutely loved it. It ended up being rather funny along with serious tones. There are some very serious themes in the townspeople seeing themselves- TW alluding to child sexual molestation history, suicide. Overall, I was impressed with the writing and the story. I‘d definitely recommend. Just wouldn‘t call it cozy, per se. And that is an nice element to have in a book too. (edited) 3y
LeahBergen You‘ve totally convinced me now that you say there‘s a bit of humour! Thanks. 👏🏻 3y
Jess_Read_This @LeahBergen I enjoyed it so much, I splurged on another Truitt Yenni book! (edited) 3y
