Early morning, August 1975: a camp counselor discovers an empty bunk. Its occupant, Barbara Van Laar, has gone missing. Barbara isn‘t just any thirteen-year-old: she‘s the daughter of the family that owns the summer camp and employs most of the region‘s residents. And this isn‘t the first time a Van Laar child has disappeared. Barbara‘s older brother similarly vanished fourteen years ago

EadieB never to be found. As a panicked search begins, a thrilling drama unfolds. Chasing down the layered secrets of the Van Laar family and the blue-collar community working in its shadow, Moore‘s multi-threaded story invites readers into a rich and gripping dynasty of secrets and second chances. It is Liz Moore‘s most ambitious and wide-reaching novel yet. This is a very good read. One child goes missing in 1961 and another goes missing in 1975. 4d
EadieB Both of them are from the Van Laar family who are owners of the camp. The story has multiple characters, scenarios and suspects. The setting is the Adirondacks. If you like stories about being lost in the woods then you would love this book. Highly recommended.

Ada Sibelius is homeschooled and raised by David, Her brilliant and socially inept single father, who directs a computer science lab in 1980's era Boston. When his mind begins to falter, she is taken in by one of David's colleagues. She is now on a mission to uncover her father's secrets: a process that takes her from childhood to adulthood. This story is highly emotional.

EadieB I learned quite a bit about Alzeimers. The ending was great but one you will have to read for yourself. If you like books like this one, then you will love this book. Looking forward to my next Liz Moore book. Highly recommend! 4mo

#August2024

Arthur Opp weighs 550 pounds and hasn‘t left his rambling Brooklyn home in a decade. Twenty miles away, in Yonkers, seventeen-year-old Kel Keller navigates life as the poor kid in a rich school and pins his hopes on what seems like a promising baseball career. The link between this unlikely pair is Kel‘s mother, Charlene, a former student of Arthur‘s.

EadieB Told with warmth and intelligence through Arthur and Kel‘s own quirky and lovable voices, Heft is the story of two improbable heroes whose connection transforms both their lives. This is a great book about an overweight 550 pound professor and a student who corresponds for 20 yrs. with secrets. She has a son who wants to be a major league baseball player. She is an alcoholic who ends up taking her life. 4mo
EadieB He is searching for his father and then he meets Arthur through his letters. Arthur hires a housekeeper as he is preparing to clean up his house for when Charlene is coming over. His housekeeper, Yolanda, is pregnant and they become friends. It is a wonderful story that is so down to earth that is keeps the pages turning until the very end. I'm now looking forward to the next book from Liz Moore. 4mo
EadieB Her writing is unbelievable and I'm sure you will love this book. Highly recommend! 4mo

Debated between so-so and pick but it wasn‘t a bad read, just not my favorite read so I chose pick!

I really enjoyed the beginning and the end of this book, but during the middle I felt like I was growing tired of the chase for her sister. Not a bad book but I just felt myself wanting to get to the end. For a long book, it‘s quite an easy read.

Northeast Philadelphia. Gritty novel about Mickey, a police officer, & her sister, Kacey, who suffers from addiction and is missing. A serial killer is on the loose who targets women who engage in sex work to fund their addictions. Love all the Philly connections and Liz Moore‘s writing. I really enjoyed this book, a lot more than I expected to. I powered through this book in two days. I didn't expect to love this story as much as I did; so, I definitely want to check out other books by her. I really loved reading about these two sisters and their complicated relationship. This story is heavy but it is so worth the read.
