pickI'm almost stuck for words. This is a masterpiece of gothic literature. The story had me gripped from the very beginning and I couldn't get enough. It is dark, chilling and harrowing with an ending that really does the rest of the book justice (I was worried that it couldn't live up to the rest of the story...but it sure did). One of my best of 2018 - a full-on 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

pickThis is a creepy, compelling neo-Victorian page-turner with a good dose of gothic storytelling.
I really enjoyed how the mysteries behind Elsie‘s past, the history of the house and the silent companions unfolded. I also found it interesting how the part of the book set in the 'present‘ deals with how women were perceived by the medical profession in the Victorian era.
